I kind of expected that Consul Hess would be a bad guy! Of course, he'd try to get rid of her so he can blame Everything that happened on her, and not his son!

Soren is at fault here... I hope that the 3 friends deaths will make him rethink his actions and work towards being a better person. (But, I don't really see it, yet. I think he is just imature and a bit wild, a bit crazy... like he thinks he's understructable.)

And I'm sorry Paisley died! She was growing on me as a character... I was liking her...

So, now Aria is out in the open... will she be okay?! I'm guessing Perry will eventually run into her?!

And Talon, I really hope Aria can help Perry find a cure for him. Please, don't let the 7 years old kid die! :( (hide spoiler)]

Okay, this book is kinda stupid. The "evil government" is cartoonish, the characters motivations are so made-up, the world building is minimal (but that might get better), and though I like the concept, it's not executed very well and I can't, for the life of me, take it seriously.

For me it was just embarrasing... even if they controled Aria's hormones and fertility in the pods, it's atually embarrasing that the guy was the one who had to tell her what's going on with her own body!!! ... like, doesn't she know anything?!

I do like that Perry does care about Aria, though... how he tries to protect her and helps her out... it's sweet, he's a Nice guy :) (hide spoiler)]

So Aria and Perry are now safe with Marron... Perry definetly trusts Marron, I just hope he doesn't end up betraying them...

And Cinder, that kid really has sufferred a Lot due to his "ability"... I'm guessing people in his tribe were afraid of him, he has a dangerous sense (if we can call it that)... I wonder why no one knew about this kind of sense?! Maybe, because it's very rare?!

And why did the "dwellers" want Talon to begin with?! Is it possible he too has a very rare and powerful sense?! And people want to take advantage of that and make genetic experiences with his DNA?!

And, has Bliss really been destroyed? I don't know why, but I don't really believe Lumina is dead... I think she escaped, somehow. (Maybe it's just wishful thinking? :) (hide spoiler)]

So... I was not expecting Aria to be half Outsider! Big suprise there. (I wonder what happend with her dad? And did Lumina actually have feelings for him?!)
And I pretty much guessed that people wanted Talon to experiment with (the poor child) ... and now we understand why Soren went crazy suddently, in the beginning of the book.

Still, we don't know if Lumina is alive and we have yet to know what the cientists are planning on doing with Talon. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 27 (view spoiler)[ Okay this book has come a long way since the beginning. I'm actually enjoying it now. The beginning was super rushed. I love the world building in this book. It perfectly displays dystopia. We have one world that seems perfect where everyone lives in pods while spending their days in the realms. But it's all just a cover to control everyone in the dome. People don't feel fear or anything real anymore. Just close to what's real. Then there's the Outsiders world where people struggle for survival. There's politics and cannibals. I also love the whole thing about Senses.

I even kinda like Aria now. She's more understanding and she wants to help. I'm really curious about her mother and who her father is. What are the chances that it's Marron?

The only thing I don't like so far is how slow the main plot is going. It feels like it's taking forever to get to Talon or even find Talon. But other than that. I'm enjoying this! (hide spoiler)]

Nicole, (view spoiler)[ I'm really hoping Aria has senses too! That would make this book a lot more exciting (and it REALLY needs more excitement!) ...

I think that if Aria does have a sense, it might be a diferent/rare one related to her voice, her singing... it's logical if we think that her mum always asked her to sing and made her practice singing... maybe she can relax people or control their moods with her singing?! (That'd be cool!) ... Anyways, since she is just now starting to develop her "outsider" part, we might be seeing some of her sense soon :)

Also, I agree with you, that the action is way too slow... it's taking ages for them to actually find Talon (I hope they do, before the end of the book!) and, so, as a result, it is taking ME ages to finish the book (because I get bored!)

The book is getting a bit better, though (when compared with the beginning), but still, for me it is only in the 3 stars category, still.

And, about Marron being Aria's dad... I don't really think so, I'm guessing her dad will only be identified in the 2nd book or the 3rd (but I may be wrong).

what do you think Aria's sense is?

Cinder is definetly turning into my favourite character of this book... I, certainly, would like to know more about his past and, maybe, see how he'll grow up and turn out to be.

Overall, I didn't enjoy this book as much as I thought I would. It started in the middle of the action (and I had no idea what was going on), it almost seemed like I had skipped the few initial pages! Then, it had a very slow development... and I got a bit bored with it.

It did get better towards the ending, but Still, it could have been better (I expected more of Aria's sense since she's a halfy) and that ending was no end at all. (hide spoiler)]

Lol interesting I had a semi different experience! But I rated it the same as you. I agree that the beginning was super chaotic! I almost wanted to dnf it. But I enjoyed the middle where they had the slow development. I guess it was a good break from what the beginning was like.

I do agree that they took forever to get to the main point of the book. It took them forever to get to Marron's house. Like seriously...it took half the book to get there or more.

I thought I wasn't going to like this book at all but I ended up liking it much more than I expected. I really enjoyed the world building and Aria's character...towards the end. Not the beginning. She was really annoying in the beginning.

I read this one years ago (before I had a goodreads account) but I don't remember ANYTHING about it at all...I guessed what rating I would have given it, and I guessed a 4 star rating because I was interested enough in it to want to finish the series, but now I'm wondering if it should be lower since I don't remember anything about it. (Minus one thing from the last book) I guess we'll see what my real rating will be now that I'll be re-reading this!!

Chapter 7- (view spoiler)[ Interesting first chapter...we are thrown right into it, and I was kind of confused on the setting. I went through a huge dystopian phase a few years ago, and I read a bunch of that genre back-to-back, and I didn't have any troubles reading it then, but now that I'm bouncing back and forth between this and sci-fi and fantasy now, so I'm find the setting descriptions to be a little off.

And Perry and his clan have abilities or powers? I think he has a strong sense of smell? I do remember something about that now, since I just read it, but I still don't remember anything about Aria's mom. (hide spoiler)]

I really don't like the audiobook of this. I've owned this book since the first time I read it, but I head a really bad headache yesterday and could only listen to the audiobook if I wanted to make progress in it, and I couldn't do it. I almost didn't want to finish the book! (Maybe if I would have given it more time, I could have gotten used to the voice and the reading) But I picked up the physical copy again today and enjoyed it much more reading it than listening to it. I agree (view spoiler)[ It starts out running, which I like, but I'm trying to understand why some people have technology and live in a virtual world mostly and others are tribes and don't seem to have any technology? (hide spoiler)]

I know what you mean about it being a little "meh..." I don't remember 99% of these books, so it's pretty forgettable for me. I do like that it's told in third person narrative...I have read so many first person books lately, so this was a pleasant change of pace for me. (hide spoiler)]

I am also glad Aria (view spoiler)[ has an ability as well, and I was happy her and Perry were able to find each other again. The last 1/4 of the book turned into a YA dystopian romance book where it shows Perry and Aria getting closer to each other. My students would love this...hahah...I'm a bit too old for it myself! LOL! Interesting first book, and I'm curious to continue, but found it be pretty average for me. (hide spoiler)]
