A few days ago I searched again, looked through one of the publishers author list, if something popped up, about 2000 names and if interesting sounding (like described in the first post), I read the longer descriptions or blurbs of the book(s). Nothing. Not sure, if that was really all authors published, but as it went back quite some time, it may be.
That was Ullstein, so I might have only 2 possible publishers left, Goldstein Goldmann and Heyne. Will try to do the same for them.

Hopefully Dr ihunde can be of help with "lost" books. LOL

That was an odd bit of spam. Poorly written. But still, funny. I mean, 5 years..! One must have a sense of humour.

Anyway. A little show of support to you, Ingo. People are still reading your request.

Ingo (ilembcke) | 669 comments Bump - in a few days it has been 5 years. No anniversary, but I am still hoping that one day it will be solved. Thinking about new search keywords, I came up blank, sorry to say.

Interesting take, but most probably not, way to late: 2005 published).
Still for the click:
SilverFin (Young Bond, #1) by Charlie Higson SilverFin
Will check it further, as the description reads interesting, and will report back here. Might take a while, though.

Added my memory of the timeframe I read this to subject-title.
I am VERY sure it was before 1998, as I moved then in my current flat, and this was a book my father bought, but gave away after we both read it, so I do not own it, and I searched once at my parents house, but the paperback collection was already gone, and this was the only book I want to read again (but now not in German translation).

Alan (alanjc) | 484 comments Have you tried Dennis Wheatley? The least Russian-sounding name ever (unless it has been mangled in translation), but did a lot of spy-slash-paranormal fiction, mostly in the 1960s-70s. Can't positively say any of it is in the Bermuda Triangle as it is not really something I read much of.

Capn | 3506 comments Hi Ingo,

I really want to help with this (but not sure I can!). I live in Switzerland - will keep an eye out at the secondhand book stores for you. ;)

Can we have a quick summary of where you are at in your search?

Just to confirm, the publisher will be Goldmann Verlag or Heynes, right? (I don't suppose you could ask the publishers themselves?)

Any chance the island was Scythia?

As German is my first language, I will answer your questions with a short summary in German:

(view spoiler)

Stimmung is leicht satirisch, in etwa Dirk Gentlys holistic detective agency.

What a disgusting sounding book! Ha ha! No wonder it was so memorable! Boy, if it ever gets found, I'd really like to write a Psych paper on the author's view of women, ha ha. Spectacular. :S

So I came across a whole shelf of yellow-spined Heynes, and I looked through each one - they were all Westerns. :S

Do you think it's possible that Heynes (or whoever) had the book pulped if a copyright infringement came to the Estate's attention? I don't know if that happens, but it sure would make it tough to find!

Ingo (ilembcke) | 669 comments TMI for a public forum, please let us not get into the horrid details.

Or use Spoiler-Tags, so not everyone has to read it.

Danke - Thanks

(Sidenote: as far as I remember, it was not described en detail in the book, only suggested that death would follow).
