I joined this group today and happen to be reading NYXIA do you think it fits? Personally I think it does https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

Hi Jennifer! Welcome!!! We trust our members to ascertain whether or not a book fits the tag. If you are reading it, and you think it does - - then, we take your word for it. If we have a contest for a prize, then we may specify different "rules", but for the monthly tag, you get to decide if a book fits or not.
That being said, I use my own personal rule of thumb for my own reads. I look at the top shelves for the book (you can see yours here: https://www.goodreads.com/work/shelve...). Basically if the tag, in this case "science", appears on the first page of tags for the book, then I usually will go with it. But that's just me. Everyone here has their own way of deciding!

I personally don't think it would fit for me because it's YA science fiction and the author has no background in, or any degree in, a science field. I guess it's up to the interpretation of individual members but I personally wouldn't consider it science. To me, for something to fit it would have to be non-fiction (but that's just my own rules). That said, I think if you think it fits, you can make the case for it fitting in your review. I own the book but haven't read it yet so can't really say one way or another.
Either way, welcome to the group!

And, I'm going to make a case for it fitting. While I see where Jen is coming from, as "non-fiction" being the main category to fit this tag, I think some fiction can fit for this tag as well.
For example, I read Artemis by Andy Weir. While he has no background, or degree in, a science field, he dabbles in physics. And, he puts so much science in his novels that I learned quite a bit from reading Artemis. I knew a lot of it already, but I still learned quite a bit. So, I think it counted just fine.
So, if you can do that with the book you're reading, then I think it would count just fine. But that's me.

I also have the Martian by Andy Weir on my TBR I always read multiple books so I can still continue the other one and then write the review on whichever turns out to be more fitting?

Definitely. It's really up to you. You can even read more than one book per tag so if you feel both fit, then you can count both. :D

As Jenni says, you can definitely do as you suggest. Or you can review them both (and earn extra participation points and extra shots at winning our monthly raffle).
The Martian definitely fits based on a number of experienced PBT members already reading and reviewing it for this month.

That’s awesome! I’m trying to read 2/month which I did. Luckily for Asia, the book has also been on my TBR a long time!
