Call Me by Your Name

Wondering if anyone has read this book. I recently read it but I have not watched the movie yet.

This story reminded me a lot of Brokeback Mountain in the heartbreak that it caused me. It's a bitterweet ending that I can't wrap my mind around. I actually barely slept the night after I red it thinking about this book.

I blame Elio's dad and his words for what happens in the end:

“But to feel nothing so as not to feel anything—what a waste!”

Jax | 990 comments I did read it but it was 10 years ago so I just have a general feeling about it, no details. Which is probably good for experiencing the movie fresh. Has it released everywhere? If it was in Buffalo already I apparently missed it.

It is definitely one of those "indie" movies with a limited release. I am waiting for it to show on Redbox. Hopefully soon! I have heard in many places Timothee Chalmet is the one that steals the show.

I read it a while ago, and didn’t like it. Then a gay YouTuber read it and raved about it, so I read it again, and still didn’t like it.

There are so many people who love this story. I guess I’m out of step with the rest of the world!

I can't say I love it but it gave me a lot to think about. There are two big reasons why i didn't love it. First, the book is slow at the beginning and a little towards the last third because it is heavy on Eio's introspection. Secondly, how it ends for Elio. That's a huge strike mark for me.

But there are two big things I loved: Elios's conversation with his dad after Oliver leaves. And Oliver's and Elio's convo in the pub. ugh!

I might have to do another read ... I can’t remember much about it, but I think the ending was the same for me as it was for you. Will see if I manage to last the distance.
