Samantha (iamsammie27) | 21 comments I'm waiting another month for Pride by Ibi Zoboi (enough early reviewers have flagged this as a Romance novel that I am going to roll with that categorization)

Wellington (stenella) | 104 comments I read The Duchess War by Courtney Milan for this challenge. Absolutely loved it!!!

message 204: by Judith (new)

Judith Rich | 126 comments I read Let Us Dream by Alyssa Cole.

I chose it for the unusual setting (US during women's suffrage campaign), but wasn't massively impressed. The central romance was as you'd expect and the happy "a few years later" ending felt false and tacked on. And I was really surprised that despite it taking place during WW1, no-one mentions the War. Although the US hadn't entered the war at that point, India (where the hero is from) had.

I did love the fact that the heroine was an ex-hooker turned brothel keeper, though. Makes a change from all those romances where she's a virgin who tames the womaniser!

LindaN (l1ndan) | 5 comments I am reading James Baldwin's If Beale Street Could Talk and think it would be a good choice for this category. Written in 1974, the book is as timely today as it was then. It is a romance, but not a light one. The characters are unforgettable.

Genie | 13 comments I read Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan for this item (romance novel by person of color) of the Read Harder Challenge, a romance and social satire. Also a new hit movie, with the 1st all Asian cast since Joy Luck Club two decades ago.

Jennifer Brady (twbird18) | 15 comments I listened to Ash by Melinda Lo on a road trip with my nieces. It's a YA fantasy take on Cinderella. I thought it was interesting. I'm curious to read the prequel now that I've learned all about the world she set up.

I did like it, but mostly as social satire. It was also fun in that same kind of way and the romance took a back seat to the descriptions of these so so so rich people and their culture.

message 213: by Tracy (new)

Tracy (tracyisreading) Im pretty sure I have A Bollywood Affair planned here. My choices this year, as always have been subject to change, so maybe I will change my mind as I read through the threads. I haven't been posting in this group since last year because I have yet to actually finish this particular challenge.

Emily (ginkgotree5) | 2 comments I read A Princess in Theory and found it extremely enjoyable - so much so that I'm now reading the sequel, A Duke by Default. I'm not normally a romance reader but these are good fun.

I adored A Princess in Theory so much that I was convinced a Duke by Default wouldn't hold up. I WAS SO WRONG and I think I liked it better. Honestly, the beginning of chapter eight related so much to me as a person that I actually had to put it down for a moment before I continued. It's a fantastic book.

Stephanie Emily wrote: "Finished Erotic Stories for Punjabi Widows, I think this might fit the romance category better than what I previously listed (Exit West). It was fun, but a little predictable."

That book was a lot of fun! The thing that struck me most about that book was less the romance (though it's a significant part of it) and more the importance of our stories and sharing them with others.

I read that book this year (how did I end up reading so much romance? Oh wait, my favorite podcast--Bookclub for Masochists--tackled the romance genre and I decided to do a bit of that myself, because it's good in library work to try and familiarize oneself with genres!) and for the most part adored it! I loved the humor of the piece and the general tone of the book. There's a part towards the end that made me a little less than thrilled, but it didn't end up becoming one of my hated tropes, so it was ultimately okay. It was an enjoyable read, and I hope you like it!

Stephanie (stephsco) | 14 comments I loved A Princess in Theory and A Duke by Default! She's a great writer.

I'm suggesting Intercepted by Alexa Martin if anyone still needs a pick. It's a new release sports romance.

Thanks Stephanie. Not really my thing either but if I can get around to it before the end of the year I'll let you know what I thought of it.

message 222: by Emily (new)

Emily | 38 comments I just finished reading When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon and it was a quick, teen romance read. I didn’t want anything super smutty or something I could picture my grandmother reading. This was a nice light hearted book that I remember being pretty popular last year.

message 223: by Andrea (new)

Andrea | 18 comments I read A Bollywood Affair by Sonali Dev. Romance is far from one of my favorite genres, but I survived this read :)
