Sounds very interesting.
Lee, please add genre and plot details to your header. This could help your query get solved faster since many members only click on threads they think they can solve. If you are unable to do this a mod can help.
What nationality is the author? Is it written (originally) in English? Author female or male? When was it published, about? In what time period is the novel set? What nationality is the man who goes into the Amazon? Is that plot point the main one of the novel? Any other plot points?

It was written early to mid 20 century and was made into a film. The only tantalising detail I have is that the star looked like Alec Guinness, but wasn't Alec Guinness.
Thank you! It’s driving my brother in law crazy. (and me)
