I could google search it but what's goodreads good for?

Brown and his men were going down the river leaving the village. Dain Waris, the son of the local native chief and Jim's friend, was waiting downriver to ensure Brown and company kept their word and left. Brown took a shortcut and attacked Dain Waris' position killing him. Tamb'Itam was there and brought the news back to Jim. When Jim found out about the attack he began issuing orders for more warriors to get ready but Tamb'Itam said "it is not safe for thy servant to go out amongst the people." He said this because Jim spared Brown and Brown's people instead of executing them. As a result Brown killed Dain Waris and others. Now Jim is on the outs with everyone and they will want revenge / justice for the killings. That would include attacking not only Jim but Jim's friends, family and servants.
