Quantum (quantumkatana) In fact, I just attended one on creating emotional depth in characters. I took home some actionable items like creating a worksheet about how my characters express their emotions.
Author Sofia Grant will speak to writers about how to create emotional depth in a novel at our final meeting of the year. This presentation offers an overview of emotion’s relationship to plot and character and introduces a variety of ways to add emotional depth. Learn to avoid common pitfalls and create your character’s “emotion palette.”
Here's the link to the presentation description. I've always come away with actionable items from this writers club meeting.

Oh, the author's latest book is a historical novel that "explores the lives of three women who break into the fashion industry after the end of WWII."

Quantum (quantumkatana) * During a scene, the POV character's emotions should shift--not just the plot or action--for example, from complacent to fearful.
* Watch people's mannerisms and reproduce them in your work (I've heard this one before, but it's worthwhile reiterating)
* In a character's emotional palette, include not only what they feel, but also what they repress or block out.

Graeme Rodaughan All good advice. The key is incorporating these things so deeply into your craft they become unconscious.
