Hilarious, Lara :D
I think we should do a different theme each time, try to outdo ourselves in wacky zaniness in how we choose the book. The more far-fetched the idea, the better.

I think what comarade Lara suggests is the only way to make us meet. And Tuesdays would always work for me.
Soooo. How about for this round we suggest a book we want to read so that Random Generator™ picks one before Christmas aka the merry holiday season before we all forget about it in a drunken haze of hot cherry brandy? Ready set suggest?
Sorry I couln't join y'all yesterday, got stuck at work. I second the motion of a fixed date. And I propose:Eileen by Ottessa Moshfegh
Dutifully input the numbers in the generator to let technology be our arbitrator and it chose Autumn by Ali Smith, which I'm sure will cater to the needs of our greatest in-house debaters
We're too late in the month to call for a meeting in January, I think? How about February 6 (it's a Tuesday)?I, er, edited the date, had myself confused with January
February 2nd is a Friday! But both January 30th abd February 6th would work for me. It's more than a month before January 30th! Plenty of time to start and finish the book.
It's just that given that Goodreads dooesn't seem to always send updates, the time it would take for most people to recover from NYE hangover (it's a known fact people here are drunkards), get the book, read it, it feels like February 6 (and not 2 like I'd mistakenly said) might be OK?
Oh, God, and we are not even in Russia, where it's bank holidays until at least January 10th and people do you-know-what...I'm OK with February 6th, just wanted to see you all earlier!
We could meet at the café de l'Industrie? Very original, I know, but it's a crowd-pleaser and fairly central?
Brown yes. There are three cafe d’industrie and only one not on a corner but all in same street. There’s usually a laughing clown outside.
SORRY. Failed. Snow, slipped, hurt self, legs rubbish in this weather. Really sorry. Loved the book, got the next, Winter, on order and really wanted to come chat with y'all about it. Have fun. x

There is only Scott Bakula embodying each and every one of us at the meeting.
What happened to us, book club ? No, I'm not crying... It's just been raining on my face.
In any case, we felt it might be necessary to rekindle the fire that burns in each and every one of us for book club, instead of letting the cat wee on its dying embers.
Maybe we need a new process? I quite liked the short-lived model introduced by René last summer—each of us picks one book we would like to read (no theme required this time) and then a random online generator selects one book out of all our suggestions.
Regarding the meeting dates, we could also go back to the dictatorial, non-negotiable way of choosing the same day, every time (for example, second Tuesday of the month).
That is to say, a little authoritarianism goes a long way.
But as in any authoritarian regime, one needs to give the impression of democracy.
So what do you guys think?
