The plan to finally capture Clive Ronan is ridiculous... how can anyone think it will work?...

I'm glad I'm not the only one who didn't give up on this series yet lol. I started this one yesterday. That plot is ridiculous, but I'm about half way and (view spoiler)[ Max being lost in time is actually my favorite plot of this series so far. I like that it's just every day living, unlike the usual plots were they quickly travel to some grand event, see it really quickly, and travel back (hide spoiler)].

Yea... the middle has been refreshing... altho (view spoiler)[Max / Jodi Taylor is playing it fast & loose with the rules about affecting past events... Max was in medieval St. Mary's all of 5 minutes before she was trying to change a Significant Event... (hide spoiler)]

There's apparently a big twist at the end... I hope it's not (view spoiler)[a River Song deal, where Clive Ronan turns out to be Max's son... altho that would throw a real spanner in the whole, don't cross your own timestream rule... (hide spoiler)]

Guess we'll find out soon...

ALSO... I have no plans on giving up on this series, even if this re-read has dulled the shine on it, quite a bit...

Even though I don't love these books, they're perfect for listening to during work. It's light and simple and doesn't take up 100% of my brain.

That's basically why I loaded the book up, myself... I'm coming down with a cold/flu from visiting friends with kids for Christmas, and had work last night, so I switched to something easier to listen to...

That ending... (view spoiler)[ didn't see the Dottle thing coming, but I loved how it showed that I'd missed some clues/hints hidden in the story, for once, which is nice... Clive Ronan getting away again is just annoying... Max running off half-cocked is par for the course... the last page frustrated the hell out of me, tho... Max acts like half the plans to capture Clive Ronan throughout the series haven't had her stamp on it... even the one in this book with her going to Percepolis, and the crown... (hide spoiler)]

Ok, I'm done. This might be my favorite of the batch. It's still not a great book, but I enjoyed the parts with (view spoiler)[Max lost in history. (hide spoiler)] I still think it's annoying that at the very beginning of the series Mrs. Partridge (view spoiler)[was introduced as the Muse of history, and since then she's become a regular person. (hide spoiler)] I just can't get over how obnoxiously plot holey that is. And I agree with your last page comment. (view spoiler)["Now it was my turn." Dude, it was all you EVERY turn. End (view spoiler)[I think Jodi Taylor is going to always keep Clive Ronan around because every book needs a "bad guy" and she's not a clever enough story teller to think up another one. He's easy to fall back on if she needs an idea for a plot. Just make Clive Ronan come back and do something else bad. (hide spoiler)]

I'm reading Hope for the Best right now, and I dunno if it's the long break, or the fact this is isn't a re-read, but I'm loving this book...

I dunno why it's taken Jodi Taylor so long to write a St. Mary's book where history has been completely derailed and everyone has to try and fix it before the present is erased in favor of a new timeline, but it's great... you guys should try it...
