Brian Basham (brianbasham) This is the place to introduce yourself. You can include whatever social media links you wish and a link to your website/blog. This is not the place to promote your book. This is a relatively young group, and I would like to get the ball rolling before we get into self promoting. I promise you will get the chance to do this later. The goal is after all to get others to help you to promote rather than you trying to push your book onto others. I will start off.. Ahem..

My name is Brian! I am working on my first novel which I am in the process of editing. I have several short stories on Wattpad. I am most active here on Goodreads, Twitter, and Wattpad.

G.G. (ggatcheson) Ok, let's try this.
My name is GG, I have two published novels but I'm taking a break before starting the next one. I'm using this break to read Indie books and/or books won on Goodreads giveaway.

I don't have a website yet, a future project maybe. I'm using Goodreads blog for now. I can be seen here A LOT, and on Facebook. I have a Twitter account but Twitter leaves me cold. I tend to 'talk' a lot and Twitter doesn't allow much room for that. :/(Truthfully, I don't get the tweeting. One day maybe.)
Anyway, here are my links:

Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/GGAtcheson
Twitter: https://twitter.com/GGAtcheson
Blog: https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...

(I tend to use my personal FB page a lot to promote books from Goodreads authors because it goes there automatically... Sometimes I share on my author page too.)

Edited: Thanks MM. I returned the favor.

M.M. Jaye (mmjaye) Hello!

I'm Maria from Greece, penning romance stories under MM Jaye. I intend to self-publish a duo (prequel and full-length novel) in November.

I review and beta read extensively, but I intend to stick to my genre from now on in an effort to create alliances and understand the competition better.

I'm active on Twitter (on FB less) and I run a weekly WIP Q&A for authors (published or not) which has become quite popular. For more info on that, use the link below to visit my blog.

My links:

I've connected with both Brian and GG on Twitter, and I've Liked your page GG!

Greetings from Greece!

Deborah Mitton (goodreadscomdeborah_mitton) Hello - Thank you for the invitation. I published my first novel last October and I've been promoting ever after. Promotion is the most difficult task I have ever done and help is necessary. I recently join #RaveReviewsBookClub (I joined others - but this group seems to be helping me. They will ask their membership to purchase your book & than give an honest review. It is my impression (and I am sometimes right)that reviews not tweets or spamming on social media. I have 17K on twitter we support me well - but I & you need readers to follow us. I joined one group here that was similar but a few were bullies.
What is the goal of this group - re promotion or sharing their fan base? I think that many are getting tired seeing promotion spam. Care is need or we will turn followers away. Your thoughts.

message 5: by Brian (new)

Brian Basham (brianbasham) @deborah This is a place where we can come up with ideas, strategies, and events for promoting each other's works. I'll create a topic later when I get off work to elaborate on this idea and what I plan to do with it. There won't be any bullying in this group cuz that goes against rule #1. Everyone here is getting in on the ground floor, and you will all have a say in which direction you want this community to grow. You also get to decide your own level of participation. I'll get into all of that in a few hours when I get off work.

Deborah Mitton (goodreadscomdeborah_mitton) Okay thanks it's 9th here ....

message 7: by Martin (new)

Martin Gibbs Martin here. I've written a number of works, ranging from historical Christian fiction to bizarro. I've not been up on promotion lately, because my "real" job has been very demanding, and so my blogs are a little out of date. However, I'm still eager to try to make this writing thing work and maybe sell a copy here and there.

I would agree with Deborah, that promotion can turn into something icky and un-fun (two professional words if I've ever seen any), and we have to help each other, not spam our stuff.

Also, as a reader first and foremost, I don't like to have books pushed on me, and when it comes to selecting a book to review, I can be quite picky. As many readers are. Therefore, as a writer, I have to respect that my oh-so-amazing-novel-that's-just-gotta-be-the-next-bestseller, isn't.

Brian Basham (brianbasham) I know how you feel. I get that icky feeling whenever I am tweeting something that is self promotional. I'm hoping we can come up with some ideas that will be fun and help get our names out there. I have a few ideas brewing in my head, but not quite ready to share them. They should be popping up in the ideas folder hopefully by the end of the week.

Dawne | 4 comments Hi, I'm Dawne, and I'm a professional rejection slip collector. No, seriously, I've been writing ever since I could hold a pencil, but promotion has always been my weak area. I'm currently working on both a short story and a novel. My life has been tumultuous these past few years, and I'm just now returning to myself. Writing is the only thing that is truly me.

I do blog, but you might have to dodge the ranting.

Kait Neese Mason (kaitneesemason) | 2 comments Hi everyone!

My name is Kait Neese and I stumbled upon this group through a click here, then there and a few more here, until voilà posting this message.

Got to love the endless cycle of trying to find the end of the Internet.

That being said I am looking for authors, publishers and service providers to interview and poll for use in an upcoming presentation I am giving to Chinese publishers in Beijing, China.

The hour lecture I am giving is in late August and is also during the Beijing International Book Fair. Which gives this a nice pop for attendance.

Hopefully, smile.

I will be speaking at the fair on the topic of "The Future of Digital Publishing & Distribution in a Mobile World".

China is about 5 years behind the US market in regards to anything related to "new-era" publishing. Mainly anything related to POD, indie, self-publishing and ebooks.

My hope is to help spread the benefits of digital publishing and the new-era model for which authors find success in the US markets.

If you are interested in taking a quick survey + questionnaire on the above please let me know! I would love any input to help with the data research collection process for my presentation.

Brian Basham (brianbasham) @Kait This group is more about helping to promote each other. I think it's cool that you are doing a presentation in China, but not sure if doing an interview for your presentation would help with what we are trying to do here. Would the interview be posted somewhere else on the internet?

message 12: by Kait Neese (new)

Kait Neese Mason (kaitneesemason) | 2 comments Brian thanks so much for reaching out and helping iron out the details with me :)

For your question, Would the interview be posted somewhere else on the internet?

The short answer is yes always.

I am a believer in the "atomic bomb" approach to distributing content I generate. The interview details would be socially shared on my personal accounts above as well as on:

1. The company social accounts that I manage with my team (4 company, 5 company - individual)

2. Included in three email blasts to the BIBF exhibitors prior to the start of the show with a landing page

3. Posted on both my blog and the blog I run for our publishing company

4. And finally included in various newsletters I send to our industry database of 25k publishers and industry decision makers. Gotta love email marketing right?

Sorry if that doesnt quite make sense but here is a link to an infographic I'm obsessed with for the "atomic bomb" approach to distributing content.

Let me know if you have any questions and of course if this doesnt fit with your discussion themes do the needful (no personal offense will be taken smile).

Have a great rest of your weekend!

Brian Basham (brianbasham) In that case this would be better posted in the events folder. It sounds like a big project, so if you need to include links with the full details then go ahead. I wish you luck.

Christie Stratos (christiestratos) Hi all! I'm Christie - both a writer and owner of an editing company, Proof Positive. I have not yet published a novel (instead I mostly edit them), but I have gotten articles and short stories published. My style is a little different - you can check out some pieces on my author website below.

I like promoting other authors on Twitter and doing author interviews and guest posts for Proof Positive's blog. If you're ever interested in being featured, just let me know! I actually enjoy promotion, so I might be the odd man out here. :)

Here are my sites. I've followed most of your Twitters and Facebook pages so far and would be happy to do so for anybody I missed. Just give me a shout.

Alex Morritt (alexmorritt) | 3 comments Hi, I'm Alex. This looks like an interesting group. I have a recently published fictional short story collection Impromptu Scribe (Nov.2014) which represents a departure from my previous two publications that are more in the realm of poetry & photography travelogues: Glimpses of Guatemala (May 2012) and Guises of Guyana (2013). I look forward to meeting more of you. Thanks

message 18: by Brian (new)

Brian Basham (brianbasham) Welcome Alex and SK. Sorry I haven't been as active here lately. I have been trying to focus on finishing my first novel. I do still prowl around on Twitter and I try to keep an eye on the #superauthors hashtag.
