This is by a French-Rwandan author and hip hop artist and was orginially written and published in French. It won some huge prizere there, and is coming out here on the 5th of June.

I needed a book set in Iceland for Popsugar, this is what I read
For my children's challenge, I read The Duck and the Owl, which was originally published in German by Swiss author Hanna Johansen. I think it is a great book for little ones and early readers. The illustrations are great!I am also reading another book (a literary thriller) originally published in German, Sand by Wolfgang Herrndorf, but using it for the Earth element category. It can also be used for the Africa or South America prompt, as it is set in North Africa.
I read Jenny by Sigrid UndsetIt was originally written in Norwegian.
I loved this story. It was simply written with a heart wrenching edge. It has encouraged me to get Undset's most famous trilogy the Kristin Lavransdatter books.
I've decided to read Beartown which was originally published in swedish. My plan was to read The Stranger but it somehow got lost in the move from the dorm to home lol.
- What are you reading for this category? Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy- What is the books original language? Russian
Just finished A Man Called Ove for this prompt, which I felt was cheating a bit since I've already read this book and it was super accessible. I had originally intended to choose something a bit *harder* but... life happens.
I love Ove, and I love this book, and for anyone who is intimidated by this prompt (or leaving it to the last second, like I was), this was a really good one to pick up.

What are you reading for this category? Before I burn by Gaute Heivoll
What is the books' original language?
Norwegian
- What are you reading for this category? Spark Joy: An Illustrated Master Class on the Art of Organizing and Tidying Up by Marie Kondō
- What is the books original language?
Japanese
I liked her other book better. The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing. Her second book about tidying is more for those who really really really want to get into her tidying style OR it's for those who want to seem like they're getting closer to their tidying goals but are actually just procrastinating by reading another book about it instead of actually doing it.
my pick for this one was
The Silent Executioner by Marcel Allain , read it on 8/5/18
original language was French
Another prompt where I didn't end up reading my original choice, Ru which is translated from French and was recommended by a friend on GRs.What I actually read: The Vegetarian.
Hmmm... this was a disturbing book lol. I know many reviewers were either unable to finish this or hated it or found it too "icky", but I thought it was an interesting take on mental illness. I didn't completely dislike it, I found it kind of sad.
Language translated from: Korean
Other books in translation I read for my picture book challenge , The Story of Babar, translated from French. It wasn't one of my favorite children books. I remember reading this in my childhood, but as an adult, there was something off about the writing, so maybe it was just a translation issue.
- What are you reading for this category? Human Acts by Han Kang
- What is the books original language?
Korean
I'm reading A Tale of Love and Darkness by one of my favorite authors, Amos Oz. It's translated from the original Hebrew.
Jody wrote: "I've decided to read A Tale of Love and Darkness by Amos Oz for this one. I've heard so many amazing things about this author so I'm very much looking forward to it.It..."
I'm about to read this too, Jody. Just saw your comment - what did you think of it?
