This will be January's book. I'll update what I choose for February. Happy Reading! :)

The Hunchback of Notre-Dame by Victor Hugo - Having a French brother in law has meant adding a lot of French authors to my list!

4/4/2013, it was 9th on my list.

Oh my! This has been on my TBR since Sept 16, 2012.

my grandparents emigrated from Iran to America in the 60s. I love hearing about Western travelers discovering what a beautiful country it is with lovely people. I've never been myself but I very much hope to some day

That's beautiful. I'd love to visit Iran if the U.S. and Iranian governments can someday learn to get along. This book does describe some difficult conditions and she spends a lot of time sweating in the hijab she had to wear but you can tell that she respects the people she met and the kindness they offered her.

Flashman sounds really interesting! One of my GR friends, who shares similar reading interests as me, gave it 5 stars so I added it!

someday i hope! for now I'll satisfy myself with fiction/nonfiction from the region. If You Could Be Mine is on my list this year

I add the book to my to-read self in March of 2016

Diana, this is a great idea for those of us who are slower readers. I've already planned out my first few books, but I may try to do this in the future!
I'll be reading Animal Farm by George Orwell for this week. Like many of us in this thread, when I joined Goodreads (in 2013) I started by adding all these classic books to my list. So I had Dune, The Catcher in the Rye, etc. to choose from...or The Great Hunt, but I didn't want to get stuck on such a long book on week 2! I went with Animal Farm because I'm trying to read books that I already have a copy of to reduce my physical TBR bookshelf. Plus it's nice and short!

I just started my TBR list so I picked the first book that I could download from my library.

January 11, 2011 - I had just joined Goodreads and I went and added every book on my bookshelves in my Korean studio - there were several hundred of them. Originally I only put on books that I actually owned as TBR. Those books are now in Canada in my brother’s basement, because I took a year off to travel and for that year didn’t have an apartment. We do seem to be staying in Colorado, so I suppose I will have to arrange to get them here at some point. I have older TBR books in Canada - I used to have a bookshelf of unread books that I’d grab a bunch off whenever I was visiting home, but I don’t have them listed anywhere to know what might be on those shelves.

I read The Mystery of the Blue Train by Agatha Christie. When I first joined, I went through and marked all of her books as either Read or Want to Read. So for this prompt I went to my used bookstore and grabbed one that I hadn't read yet. This one was ok, middle of the road for her. It's a very old paperback edition though and the last page is an advertisement for "a revolutionary reducing plan" called Calories Don't Count, which I got a good laugh out of.

My favorite series ever. I am up to the 5th book!

It's the 1st book that I TBRized (I love another series by the authors, so I thought it'd be nice to try something else by them). As the translation for the ebook had a huge sale in 2017, I bought it and will use it for the challenge. My 2nd option was World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War.

I did try reading it last year sometime and gave up. When I started reading I was reminded why I struggled with it before and although I finished it this time I didn't really enjoy it. On the positive side though, I did learn something from it and at least it's shortened my TBR!

I am almost done, only 25 pages left. I have the third book on the agenda for later on in the challenge.
I was really dreading this book because The Fellowship of the Ring was so difficult to get through. My 12 year old son assured me this one was easier and faster, and he was right. (As a side note, one of these books fulfilled my son's AR fiction goal for the quarter, so we don't need to worry about fiction until the spring quarter !)
