While going through a backlog of email this morning, I realized I had about 5 emails with the topic related to casting movies for different books we've read. It was really hard to tell which book it was related to without clicking through...and there are only some of those threads that "matter" to me.

In another book club I'm in, for club picks, threads for the specific books are titled with the book identifier in the title. For example, if the club read Ancillary Justice, the threads might be of the form, "AJ: [title of thread here]," or if they read A Game of Thrones, it might start with "AGoT:".

Obviously it would be painful to do this for all the existing threads, but maybe going forward we could try to do it? What do y'all think? Would that help anybody but me?

Haha. Must be an awesome group! :-P

Obviously I'm in favor of this idea.

Phil | 1458 comments I think it's a good idea too.

Ruth (tilltab) Ashworth | 2218 comments It would not help me at all... but it wouldn't hurt me either, so I declare it a good idea. :)

Caitlin | 358 comments This would help with the "Unread" thread in the mobile app for Android as well. It doesn't specify which folder a thread is in until you click through.

Lol.

Ben (bennewton_1) This idea makes the little obsessive-compulsive gremlin inside me very happy.

Ruth (tilltab) Ashworth | 2218 comments Oh dear...was just about to update the Casting thread for the current pick...and now it looks like I made a sad face. D:

That brings up the one issue we'll have is that anyone can make threads and I suspect many people won't follow the pattern/know about it because this group is huge.

In my other group it's not an issue because if someone does that I can just edit the title with my super mod powers.

It would have to be up to the group's mods or other members to pester the thread's author to fix their titles if they forget/don't do it.

Also in a one word title like that, I'd probably just use Dawn: instead of D. It's kind of hard without a few words to create the abbreviation.

Perhaps one could include author initials in those cases? Dawn by Octavia Butler = DbOB? Or would that be getting to complicated at that point?

Yeah, that could be more confusing I'd think.

Now why didn't I think of that! Fixed. :)

Well, if enough of us start posting in this way, it'll probably catch on. Can't hurt to try it and see.

Oh sure, it doesn't hurt to try it.

But I actually did try it once or twice here and it didn't catch on, so I went and made my own group in protest.

Well that last part was an exaggeration. But I did make my own group where we discuss books in a fashion that works well for my OCD.

Ruth (tilltab) Ashworth | 2218 comments *narrows eyes* But did you create a thread explaining this to people? Did you? DID YOU? (if you did, I apologise for not having noticed and withdraw my judgement :P)

I don't remember. Probably not. That's why Kristen is the rocket scientist.

Shaina (shainaeg) | 166 comments I would love that, It's often hard to tell which of the two books, the current or the previous book are being discussed. Something like Dawn could just start with Dawn, it's a short enough title.
