This past Sept. 2017 I did about an 8 day trip out west with another Hemingway aficionado to Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho. We ate, slept, drank, fished, hiked, and hung out in Hemingway's haunts on his trail of travels with his sons, Pauline, Martha, and Mary. We ended up at his gravesite, and had a little ceremony, of reading part of his short story Two Hearted River aloud, and left items associcated to Papa on his gravestone, and visited his home where he ended his life. It was definitely a religious experience. Has anyone else out there visited any of these locations???

I can go into more details into the trip if anyone is interested. I have also visited places he worked in Kansas City, and also visited Key West and saw his home there, and Pauline's Parents home in Piggott, Arkanas.

I am hoping to do the Chicago/Oak Park birthhouse and boyhood home, and also his travels in Michigan in the near future.

Let me know if you'd like to hear more about the trip West.

Spencer | 6 comments That sounds great. How was the fishing?

I've visited Hemingway's house in Cuba, and that is well worth a visit.

I have been to the home in Key West, and also his inlaws home in Piggott, Arkansas, and then Ketchum...and I hope to go to his birthplace and boyhood homes in Oak Park, Illinois and up to Michigan to his parents cabin too. Then I will have visited all his locations of where he lived or stayed in the United States. I have also been by where he lived in Kansas City, when he worked for the Kansas City Star...I forgot that. LOL

Petoskey. :-)

I hired a tour guide and saw the cottage and took photos from the road. I went to Oak Park and did everything Hemingway and then up into Michigan. Spent 3 days in Petoskey, and the tour was supposed to be 2 hours. Ended up being 5. Then went up into the upper peninsula and stopped at Seney, Michigan and saw the Fox River where Hemingway fished on the Fox River ,and was the inspiration for Big Two Hearted River. The story names the town. Was doing this the last two weeks of July 2018.

We also saw Grace's Cottage and the owner caught us. Invited us inside. I was thrilled! Thanked the guy over and over.
