I believe Miles is the oldest hero at around 50 and I'm not that old yet. I still feel like I'm Venetia's age or Abby Wendover's age though. NOT a Mama!
Hi,my name is Brenda, and I just found this group by way of a member. I've not read any Georgette Heyer yet, but I recently came across her work and it seemed like something that I would like and wanted to start reading her, so I was happy to see there was a group here. Looking forward!

Hi Brenda & welcome!
We have been reading GH's Regency novels in order. This month we are up to her second to last one. Charity Girl Feel free to join in if you want to!
Hi, Brenda! we are currently reading Charity Girl as a group; feel free to join in. I love Heyer and wish I hadn't read them all many times, so they would be new to me.

Hi Brenda, and welcome. I discovered Heyer about five years ago (through audiobooks) and only joined this group last year. She’s a fabulous author, but there are still many of hers I haven’t read. These group reads are fun, a very lively and entertaining way to experience new reads!
Thank you everyone! I was able to get an ebook, and will start the beginning of next week. I’m really excited to have found the group so quickly as I just ran across her books a few days ago. Serendipity? :))
Hi Brenda! You're in for a treat! I wish I could read them all again for the first time. Be aware that once you go Heyer, you can't go back. She'll ruin you for all other Regency "romance" authors. Almost none of them have her meticulous attention to historically accurate details or witty writing. *sigh*
Hi, I'm Alex and it's great to be part of your group. My first GH book was Arabella introduced by Audible which I loved and has succeeded in making me an all time fan. It's really difficult to decide which is your favourite but so far I have to say it's Sylvester, although I love so many others, including Black Sheep which I have just finished. I am now about to embark on The Nonesuch, but I'm not sure about the narrator. I'll see. Are you aware of a way of buying a compendium of all her books?
Hi Alex, welcome! The only compendium I know of is out of print - Georgette Heyer Compendium, and I have not seen it.
Here is a listing of her works in order, divided by Georgian, Regency, (Other) Historical, Contemporary, Detective Novels, Essays and Short Stories:

and a list of her work currently in print

Hi Alex & welcome. We had a group read of Black Sheep a couple of months ago - feel free to add your thoughts to it.
I think the book shelf in this group is as good a reference as any for looking for GH titles. https://www.goodreads.com/group/books...
as most sites don't list Snowdrift and Other Stories or Acting on Impulse: Contemporary Short Stories by Georgette Heyer which were published after GH's death. Snowdrift is just Pistols For Two with three extra stories though. :)
Hi Alex! Welcome to the wonderful world of Georgette Heyer! My personal preference is for the first edition hardcovers so I continually check them out of the library and should the library choose to weed them, I will be first in line to buy them or fish them out of the recycling bin.
Ha, QNPB, I tend to buy any copies of Heyer I find in book stores or library sales, just because I'm so afraid the copies I have that are taped together with all sorts of interesting tape (and love) will eventually disintegrate. My little library doesn't have any!
Hello. I'm Jenni,I'm new to Goodreads and new to your group, but not new to the amazing Georgette Heyer. A wonderful librarian recommended Heyer about 20 years ago. Cotillion was the first and Bath Tangle is my favorite. Her mysteries are fantastic as well.

Hi Jenni! I also like the mysteries and, actually, have been in the mood for one of them lately.

Hi Jackie. Thanks for the welcome. Just recently read The Unfinished Clue. It was good. Of course I enjoyed the romance. And after each Heyer book I'm usually saying, that's my favorite. :)

Librarians are the best, aren't they ;)"
Hello! Thank you for the welcome. Absolutely!
Librarians have put me on to so many great books and authors.
Hi Jennifer. You'll have fun here. I've read Heyer's Regencies time and time again but it's only since I joined this group that I've started reading her crime ones. So glad I did.
thanks for the warm welcome. I'm so disappointed as I have just bought Venetia off Ebay and it's all in tatters! Does anyone know a good supplier of her books, apart of course from Amazon?
Alex wrote...Does anyone know a good supplier of her books, apart of course from Amazon?"Hi Alex, I'm new-ish here too :-) I've been enjoying the posts (though I wish I could 'like' them on goodreads, the only option seems to be reply?) Have you tried abebooks? I've used them a lot, and 99% of the books have been in great condition..

Hey Alex - I’ve had good luck with Amazon marketplace, varying prices, condition on new and used books, and never gotten a book in bad shape. For new books, I’ve also used Book Depository, which gives me UK and some American booksellers, usually offering free delivery, always gotten great service, books arrive in good time and condition. I don’t know if you’re in the UK if they’re available or what name they go by (some of our UK members can perhaps recommend a good seller, if you’re there). I’ve mostly ordered new, since I know I’ll want to reread, keep my Heyer collection forever! ;)
Susan in NC wrote: "Hey Alex - I’ve had good luck with Amazon marketplace, varying prices, condition on new and used books..."I too use a variety of sites to order new and used print books: ebay (of course); Thriftbooks.com; betterworldbooks.com and biblio.com are my main go-to sites.
There's also a site called Worldofbooks.com. I find them excellent and I've never gotten a book in bad condition from them.

QNPoohBear wrote: "I buy my used books from abebooks.com and alibris.com"I had not heard of alibris.com. I'll look into that site. Thanks
I can join in the recs for Abebooks.com, which aggregates the offerings from numerous UBSs. I have had very good luck with them, in terms of the condition of the books offered. However, the individual dealers seem to have their own ideas of what constitutes 'timely' shipping!
I recommend www.usedbooksearch.co.uk It searches other sites including abebooks, alibris, and amazon. NB: Be very careful to check your delivery address with alibris. I use them very rarely, but ordered a book recently (At Wellington's Right Hand: The Letters of Lieutenant-Colonel Sir Alexander Gordon, inspired by my re-reading of An Infamous Army). I put in my current address but did not notice that only my billing address had been updated. The book went to our old home in Germany, which we moved away from in December 2007! Fortunately it was returned and the bookseller then sent it to me in Glasgow.
Alex - I always use Amazon which usually offers more than one supplier of used books. I must admit, I mostly buy ebooks now because I can change the font size!
Hi everyone!I'm Emma - I'm really excited to have found this group as I have absolutely adored Heyer's books since I was 15! Unfortunately none of my friends read historical fiction so I don't have anyone to
I'm very excited to join in with next month's group read and discussions!

Welcome! You picked a good time to join. Right now we are reading 'These Old Shades'; next up is 'Devil's Cub'. We are having a good time with TOS and I expect the same for Devil's Cub. I'm sure you will fit right in.
Hi Emma, Welcome!Right now we have an unusual reading schedule starting in the middle of the month. We usually start group reads at the beginning of the month, but we had a month off and missed Heyer so much that we moved up the last three reads of the year.
We will be reading and discussing These Old Shades until mid-November (the 15th). That means there is still a lot of time if you want to join in!
Afterwards, the discussion for Devil's Cub starts around November 15th.
Hey there! I'm Grace, and a long-time Heyer fan, so very happy to have found this group. I think I've read all her romances over the years but only one or two of her mysteries. TOS is one of my all-time fave romances (she set the bar for dangerous libertine heroes!), so excited for a re-read. Been enjoying the discussion so far!
Hi, Emma and Grace - welcome to this wonderful group! Great timing, still plenty of time for These Old Shades, and then we’re on to Devil’s Cub - look forward to discussing with you both!
Welcome, Grace!Glad you are enjoying the discussion so far, would love to hear your thoughts on These Old Shades!
Welcome Emma and Grace. Look forward to you joining in the discussions. These Old Shades this month and Devil’s Cub coming next. Get stuck in and join the chat! 😉
