Haha! Just responded to a comment on one of The Grand Sophy threads!

Aussie54 | 7 comments Hi, I’m so glad the idea of searching for a Georgette Heyer group popped into my head, and I’m surprised I never thought to look for one before.

My first Heyer book was “These Old Shades” which my Mum gave me many years ago. I loved it, and over the years gradually built up my Heyer Library. I re-read them every now and then. I’m currently working through her mysteries. They didn’ t appeal to me back when I was younger, but I’m really enjoying them now.

Welcome Aussie54. I love TOS, but my all time favorite is Devil's Cub.

Yes, “Devil’s Cub” is one of my favourites too. It’s hard to pick just one favourite, though. “The Grand Sophy” is up there, too, amongst others.

Susan in Perthshire (susanageofaquarius) | 1448 comments You’ve named 3 of my all time top favourites. Like Carol, Devil’s Cub comes first but TOS and TGS are up there too along with Venetia, The Reluctant Widow and An Infamous Army.

I think my tastes have changed since I read the stories when I was a young teenager. Some old favourites have receded, to be replaced by others that perhaps didn’t appeal as much back then. :)

Jackie | 1728 comments I also didn't like the mysteries when I was much younger and then over the years I learned to like them.

Welcome, Aussie54, glad you found us!

Oooo, TOS is one of my faves, too! And Devil's Cub and Sophy, too!

We are starting a group read of Cotillion (another fav) in October, would love to hear your thoughts then!

Susan in NC (susanncreader) | 4143 comments Hi, Samantha and Aussie54- I look forward to reading and discussing GH’s books with you! I love all of the titles mentioned above, but would add Foundling and Civil Contract to my list of favorites. And I’m a real mystery buff, and her mysteries are so witty and character driven, I’ve enjoyed them all!

Teresa | 2186 comments Ok I'm throwing in The Nonsuch. I mention it every chance I get as it's my absolute favorite but not many people seem to like it.

message 161: by Karlyne (new)

Karlyne Landrum | 3895 comments But A Civil Contract is my very most favorite...

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ Hi everyone.
Just a reminder that this is the introduction thread & that not every member has read The Nonsuch.
If someone could dig up the old Nonsuch threads you could carry on the discussion there?
Thanks. :)

Paullett Golden (paullettgolden) | 9 comments Hello! My name's Paullett Golden, and I learned about this group from the Heyer FB group. I'm excited to find it! I've been a lover of Heyer for as long as I can remember and have been sad that none of my fellow histrom friends have enjoyed her, so it's great to finally connect with others who do. I especially enjoy discussing as I read, so a group like this will be perfect! My schedule is tight, so I won't always be able to participate in group reads, but I sure will am to try! My first read was The Grand Sophy, I think. Choosing a fav is nigh impossible, though. How does one choose a fav when they each have something different to offer? I'd say it really depends on my mood or what's happening in life as to which one I'm favouring at the time.

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ Welcome to our group, Paullett. :)

Tuesdayschild | 14 comments Hi I'm Chelle,
I used to see my mum reading Georgette Heyer during my young years, and indulged in my first Heyer, The Grand Sophy, as an adult: Hooked!
My other 5* favourites are The Reluctant Widow, Frederica.

I'm currently trying to revisit the Inspectors books in order and will be ready to veer of with The Toll-gate in January.

Susan in Perthshire (susanageofaquarius) | 1448 comments Welcome Chelle. The Grand Sophy, The Reluctant Widow and Frederica are in my top 5* books too!

Paullett Golden (paullettgolden) | 9 comments Long at last, The Tollgate has arrived! Yes, I'm that old fashioned reader who prefers paperbacks. Can't wait to dive in, but I'll be patient and wait until January. ;)

Susan in Perthshire (susanageofaquarius) | 1448 comments Paulett, my edition of the Tollgate was an ancient hardback with crisp, yellow pages that kept falling out and finally - it fell apart!! I purchased it on Kindle for this forthcoming read - not quite the same! Enjoy!

April Braswell (midlifedatingexpert) | 3 comments Hi. Just making my curtsy. Both my middle sister and I drank from the same fountain of fiction, my late mother's taste. Ergo, we are Austen AND Heyer FANS. When my sister moved across the country and had to cull her physical books, she did keep BOTH Jane and Georgette. I have collected Heyer romances best via batches of books over at ebay to where, I did need to cull a wee bit. Not reading one currently, but you can always just think of me as April Lady! lol Had to say it. Yup. Yes I did. We loved that Heyer researched her books, so there was depth and details. Delice! Will need to nibble on one again in January. Happy New Year, ladies. Cheers and blessings, April PS: I'm widowed but engaged again. Darling that he is, nothing like any of our heroes! Oh well!

Aileth | 4 comments Hi all! I'm Aileth.
My first ever Heyer was recommended to me by a wonderful librarian. It was, I think, April Lady or Sprig Muslim. I can't remember which came first and which second, possibly the very next day. After that I couldn't stop.
My favourite at first was Venetia. Now I prefer Cotillion and Friday's Child.

message 192: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 2186 comments Hi Aileth. So glad you're joining us. This is a great group and we have some good discussions. I have loved Heyer since I picked up one of her books in a second hand shop many years ago. My favorite is The Nonesuch but we're reading The Toll-Gate at the moment and it's fast creeping up for me as a fav.
Hope you enjoy it here.

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ Welcome Aileth (what a pretty name!) Cotillion is my favourite of GH's Regencies as well.

We are reading GH's Regencies in the order they were written. Sprig Muslin & April Lady are coming up very soon. :)

Hello Aileth, and welcome!
My favourite Heyers change over time, too, which makes them very enjoyable to re-read.

We are reading The Toll-Gate this month, and would love to hear your thoughts if you want to join in the discussion.

Bookworman Hello. My name is Bookworman.

I read my first Georgette Heyer in 1975 when I was 19. I had just lost my mom and one of my friends' mothers lent me her copy of "The Corinthian". It was love at first sight and I've been a huge fan ever since.

My favorites are "Venetia" and "A Civil Contract".
