This topic is open for discussion of Cursed Moon by Jaye Wells. Be prepared for SPOILERS.

When a rare Blue Moon upsets the magical balance in the city, Detective Kate Prospero and her Magical Enforcement colleagues pitch in to help Babylon PD keep the peace. Between potions going haywire and everyone's emotions running high, every cop in the city is on edge. But the moon's impact is especially strong for Kate who's wrestling with guilt over falling off the magic wagon.

After a rogue wizard steals dangerous potions from the local covens, Kate worries their suspect is building a dirty magic bomb. Her team must find the anarchist rogue before the covens catch him, and make sure they defuse the bomb before the Blue Moon deadline. Failure is never an option, but success will require Kate to come clean about her secrets.

Lisarenee | 2046 comments I'm not sure, but I think the release date of this one has been pushed back.

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 3123 comments Do you know when to?

Lisarenee | 2046 comments No. B&N still has it for August 12th, but Amazon removed it from having a release date with no kindle option. It's published by Orbit. Hmmm... Could this is another book affected by the Amazon/Hachette dispute? I think Orbit's one of their imprints.

Looks like if you want to pre-order this one do it by another source other than Amazon.

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 3123 comments Guess we'll find out on 8/12.

Tina Bartz | 678 comments I got the first one on sale for $1.99 but didn't plan on reading it until the next one came out. I like to serial read (pun intended) lol when I can. I may not wait though if it doesn't come out in August.

Yes, Jaye Wells is a Hachette author. She's been tweeting about it. Date is still August 12th. Looks like I'm buying mine through Kobo.

Lisarenee | 2046 comments I'll be getting mine via B&N or possibly Books-a-Million. I wonder who is faster?

message 10: by Lisarenee (new)

Lisarenee | 2046 comments I will not be buying from B&N online again. My pre-ordered book is not scheduled to be delivered until Monday. Curses!

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 3123 comments I'm waiting for my library.

Lisarenee | 2046 comments **************** Spoilers for Chapters 1 - 14 ****************
So I'm 150 pages in and it's keeping my interest. Jaye Wells uses some not so pleasant descriptions for expressions. One is a pink worm on a hook. Ew. In another she compares a person's face to an pinched anus. Double Ew!

There is no glossary, which would have been nice and I felt is needed.

It started out interesting enough with a leprechaun administering a sex drug to a crowd. Shortly thereafter, we learn someone stole some sex drugs from a coven. I kept wondering could the two be connected? 120 or pages in we hear there is a turf war about to start because a new wizard is in town and wants to take over. Again I wonder, could there be a connection? No one's connected the dots yet if there is.

Volos says he did what he did in the last book for reasons that will soon make sense to Kate. I wonder if he's lying? If she broke his heart could he still love her or is he out for revenge? I wouldn't trust him.

The Lake Erie Lizard? Hmmmm...

We finally get a peek at the third coven. Interesting. Who is Shayla King? Have we met her before? Even if we have met her, a little bit of background on her would have been nice. How does Kate know her? Why was she surprised to see her there? I thought this was poorly done.

Aphrodite, to say the least, is an interesting character.

We finally meet Uncle Abe and it wasn't as dramatic a meeting as I'd hoped it would be. A little disappointing.

I thought they had already celebrated in the last book Kate's 10 year anniversary at a meeting. Is my memory failing me? Maybe they just acknowledged it but didn't celebrate?

Pen's hospitalization and accident had strange timing. Is there more to it or was she just in the wrong place at the wrong time?

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 3123 comments I read this a couple of weeks ago, but forgot to put my thoughts down. I had a hard time with this one, found it a bit boring and hard to keep my concentration.

I felt like if it could go wrong for Kate it did. She fought with everyone which seemed to isolate her. It also caused her to face the different choices that she made. I did like that by the end she had made up with everyone and had come to terms with the choices she made.

Lisarenee | 2046 comments Kate seems mad about her choice to cook and is projecting her guilt onto others. I have to say, denying someone pain relief because they might become addicted to the medication/potion is just plain mean. It's like she just doesn't get it. I think we talked about this with the last book. She sees things as black and white with no grey in between. I have to say, however, both her brother's and best friend's reactions to her new job seemed to come out of left field. We don't as readers see what they're seeing. She hasn't even been working all that long in her new unit for them to feel she's submerging herself so fully into her job. I guess that's the problem with a first person perspective from only one character's viewpoint.

I agree with you about Pen and her pain. It was sort of like the pot calling the kettle black.
