Alongside the group's monthly reads of the award winners, we also have a Monthly Additional Nominee Reads.

Group members will vote on each the awards category nominees (minus the winner of course!) throughout the year to decide which runner up will be the additional group read.

The poll voting is always scheduled so members will have approximately a month's notice before the read is scheduled to start. The schedule and results will be posted below.

Once a category poll is closed we will then open up discussion for the rest of the nominee books to set up buddy reads for any members interested.

I'm the same too, never understood the hype
(Apart from the my theory that the readers who love him listen to audio books and love him because of his accent)

I'll have to check on this accent then ;) I even tried watching the tv show and didn't make it after episode 1. Too too weird for my taste!

Personally I don't find anything remarkable by it, but that's because it's an English accent lol

However a lot go ga-ga over him

I kind of figured The Bear and the Nightingale would win. It seems a lot of people want to read it. I don't have any interest in this one, but I wouldn't have been interested in Norse Mythology either. Oh well.

message 11: by Savanes (new)

Savanes | 2107 comments Likewise, I voted for red sister. I'm not sure I will read the bear and the nightingale but I don't have an aversion to it! ;)

Savanes | 2107 comments As to the accent, meeeh!

I've loved the 2 books of his I've read. The Ocean at the End of the Lane was heartbreaking. I don't think you can judge him by one book.

Also, this book is probably much different as it's more nonfiction as he's writing about Norse mythology. I'm interested in that after having watched some of Wagner's operas.

Vicki Willis | 1033 comments I have to do some research here. Am not familiar with any of them!

message 16: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) There's some good ones on the list. I want to read All Our Wrong Todays. It's about time travel and a parallel Earth where all those things they predicted about the future in the 1950s (flying cars, etc) are real.

All Systems Red is a nice short little book and I really enjoyed it.

American War is one of those alternate history books and it would be my second choice for a read

Babylon's Ashes is the latest in the series that is the basis for SyFy's The Expanse series.

Raven Stratagem is the follow-up to the excellent Ninefox Gambit

Sleeping Giants is the follow-up to the excellent Waking Gods

The Collapsing Empire by John Scalzi was good too.

message 19: by Janina (new)

Janina (sylarana) | 692 comments I’ve been wanting to read American war for a long time now, but the alternate future book sounds interesting as well. I tend to prefer darker sci-fi / dystopia though.

Kirsten & Janina - There was a lot of interest in American War. You could plan a buddy read, if you're both still interested. Other people may join you.

I read Beartown this past October. I really enjoyed it. The writing is different from his previous work. There is a sequel coming out, Us Against You, that I plan to read.

Vicki Willis | 1033 comments I haven't read anything by that author. I am looking forward to it

Susan | 16 comments I read Beartown late last year too, I thought it was great. The characters were so distinctive, I began to feel I knew them. I didn't know about the sequel coming out, I will shelve it right now!
