Allison (allisonface) | 19 comments I'm looking for recommendations in the slipstream/new weird genre. I became a big fan of Jeff Vandermeer a few months back, haven't yet read any China Mieville. Female authors would be a bonus! Thanks in advance. :)

Avery | 4 comments I highly, highly, highly recommend Ice by Anna Kavan. It is an absolutely incredible book that is both beautiful and chilling, and realizes the slipstream idea of slipping in and out of dream-like, hallucinatory reality better than anything I've read. It is a very intense book though, and comes with content warnings for abuse, violence, and a general scary, oppressive tone.

I would love to hear others' recommendations for new weird, as most of the weird fiction I read comes from the 30s-70s. Danielewski and Murakami might count as well?

Allison (allisonface) | 19 comments Sounds dark, and perfect for winter. I'm going to request this from the library right now. Thank you, Avery!

I've read House of Leaves, but no other Danielewski. Have you read the Familiar series?
