can people like... stop being so judgmental about my major? i'm tired of people telling me that i'm "giving up" or "selling out" or that i'm "giving up as soon as it starts getting hard." when i was in my health sciences major i was nothing but committed... hell, i had started writing my personal statement for grad school in sophomore year. i was volunteering and networking and doing everything most people wait to do.
and then i sat down to write my personal statement, and i realized that i had nothing to write because i had never been doing it for myself.
but there's nothing wrong with choosing a major because it's what my parents wanted! that was my choice to make. there's nothing wrong with me changing my major to something that will provide me with financial and job security! that's my choice to make.
sure i've loved other things... history, writing, graphic design... but it doesn't make me a sell out to choose something that will give me the future stability to be able to do things i enjoy on the side of work.

i'm making my own decisions, and the rationale behind those choices is up to my own priorities in life.
i have more responsibilities in life than giving myself instant gratification for college classes.
which apparently means i'm just a heartless sell out who doesn't care about real people, only money, and is too lazy to do "real work" so i switched to something "easier"
do bear in mind that my school's program is not easy because we have a really high ranking business school
people also just don't understand that, culturally, if i want to keep a good relationship with my parents, i have essentially three options (stem, law, business), and i tried stem and hated it, and have no interest in law. i have enough interest in business to pursue it, and that's all the reason i need. my family relationship is more important to me than anything else, and while i understand that this is not the choice all people would make, i wish people would try to be a little more understanding and respect my decision...

exactly. i've never put anyone down for their choice of major, no matter how practical/impractical/boring it may seem, so at least they could keep it to themselves...

also lmao it's not like... a crime to want to make money. like it's not a bad thing to have more future job stability than, say, if i chose to be a guitar performance major. which is totally cool and all, but not everyone is a risk taker.
