DoodlePandas 2018 Reading Challenges
They are really short, trying to get through a few for the Uno challenge I'm doing... Will probably start reading books with more pages once April is done :)I have so many rereads I'm wanting to read too...

Rereads don't count :P
(kidding)
DoodlePanda wrote: "LOL!!Seeing as one of the tasks in the mega-bingo is re-read a favourite I don't believe you :P"
Too true. And I don't have any rereads lined up.
Oh, wait! I could claim one of the Preacher graphic novels, as some of them are a rearead :)
I've got to have at least one graphic novel around here somewhere.I believe I have a GN of one of the Mercy stories.
I did that alphabet challenge last year. It was fun. You are much further on that, so I'm sure you will finish quickly!
Stephanie wrote: "I did that alphabet challenge last year. It was fun. You are much further on that, so I'm sure you will finish quickly!"Thanks :D
It's a nice way to help me decide what to read next, and to get through a lot of the books I have lying around on the Kindle!
Is it bad that I want to start next years challenge thread already? Not because I have anything special planned, but I want to do the cover challenge like this year, but change it a bit, and I just want to have it in a place where I can find it again xD
It's terrible! What are you thinking!;)
I'd actually be interested in your thoughts on a cover challenge. I'm enjoying the Bingo one a lot.
DoodlePanda wrote: "Is it bad that I want to start next years challenge thread already? "
I'm shocked I'm not the first person to next year's challenge.
Haha! :DWell it would be similar to the one I'm doing now, only add more/take some off. I just need a place to gather my thoughts as I keep thinking of stuff I want to add, but then I forget as I don't have anywhere to write it down.
(Yes, I could use Word, or a piece of paper, but... nah :P )
I like challenges to do with the cover/title/author as it makes it easier to plan. Compared to "find *this* in the book, which is more tricky to know before you actually read the book)
You know what would be cool. If we could all have our own Bingo cards. I'd do one for covers and countries and one for subregions of the world. That way people can shift more to their reading wants next year.Possible options for cards or lists of categories to cover (because that's what it really is):
the big pile of unread books challenge
the cover challenge
the world subregion challenge
the world country challenge
the genre challenge
the WSW (weird-shit wednesday) challenge
the how to find books challenge
the read something off your top-friends read books challenge
HomeInMyShoes wrote: "I'm sure Dazrin is rolling their eyes at me right now."Na.
I could just remove some of the formatting that shows changed categories from this year's challenge if we go this way. Not a problem.
Dude. We should TOTALLY do a WSW card!It should stipulate that the shit has to be weird. And mostly free - but TBR stuff works.
DoodlePanda wrote: "I like challenges to do with the cover/title/author as it makes it easier to plan. Compared to "find *this* in the book, which is more tricky to know before you actually read the book)"Whereas, I prefer the "find this" type since I am not a planner by choice and while I can guess, it is fun to have that AHA! moment in a book when you weren't really expecting it. (It mentioned pirates! Score!)
As far as I am concerned, start a 2019 thread any time.
More board ideas:
*Opposites (long vs short, old vs new, young author vs ... um... mature authors ;), under the earth vs in space, opposing political parties, books from two sides of a war, first book vs last book, etc.)
*Classics (maybe by author?)
*Subgenre challenge - lots of different subgenres for a single genre
What is the "How to find books challenge"? Is that like the "library fishing" thing from last year? Different ways to discover a book? Random, book club, friend, etc?
How about a decimation card?Like, take your TBR and count. Every 10th book you should attempt to read.
Mature. Heh. :PTo quote Sons of Freedom...".....duck the classics"
That was what I was thinking for the book find challenge: "people also liked" from Goodreads or Amazon; co-wor mker recommendation; random person recommendation; sale bin; randomly perusing the shelves at the bookstore; found in some random booklist on the Web. I think this would be an open challenge to just list all the crazy ways we found the books, but there could be a minimum we need or something.
I'm totally out on TBR. I've got 9 unread books now and none of them actually owe me money (they were all collections of which I have read the majority of the books from.) That's pretty much a 0 on the TBR list now.

ETA: Does this include your borrows list, too? NO TBR?

I have over 500 unread books on my Kindle, so this seems like it would work just fine :D

Bought and unread: 7 books
Free and unread: 2 books
Currently out: 3 books
Want to Read/Potential read list: ~300 books
The WTR/PR list just lists everything I might want to read and whether I can find it at the library or if it needs requesting from another library or an ILL or a potential buy. Although I have probably bought three books for myself over the last three years so buy isn't really applicable any more.
Changed the genres, and put steampunk/cyberpunk back as I realize that The Emperor's Edge would fit in that category. Which means I've finished the genre bingo board and I'm now at 140 points! :D

I had kinda forgotten that I still had some replacements left as well, I'm saving a couple in case I find something I struggle to complete :D
Me too. Dazrin mentioned earlier about a score because Pirates were mentioned. I've got exactly that situation, but I'm not using it (at least at the moment) as I feel the book should really be about Pirates. But if I get desperate, things might change... :)

Well as it is May 1st tomorrow, that means that the Uno challenge is over. It was kinda fun, but way too stressful due to some of the team members not pulling their weight...I might still try it again next year (if they are doing it again) in the hopes of getting a better team :)
HomeInMyShoes wrote: "I'm more of a loner when it comes to reading, but the options for books sounded interesting."The Uno challenge isn't too bad, you can literally read whatever you want and 99% of books will be able to count towards the challenge (The mini-challenges are a little different though)
I think it would have been a lot more fun if it wasn't for one of the biggest readers (in number of books average per month) for some reason didn't read a lot, and barely showed up at all.
I must say I'm kinda relieved to be done with the Uno challenge... I don't feel like I have to read all the time, and I don't have to keep looking for things in the books that would count. Now I can just... read :D

Sooo... I joined another challenge.. :PThe Seasonal Reading Challenge (summer)
3 month challenge, not in teams though so it shouldn't be as stressful as the Uno challenge. And I don't really plan on reading anything different that I would anyways, just fun to see how many points I will get :)
Been feeling a reading slump lately so I'm hoping this will help!
And I am now behind on posting the few books I have finished, but hopefully I'll get around to it this weekend :D
Been getting behind on updates...
