Numerology?"
Douglas Adams!
(It's from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.)

Agree Lance ....But I would also envoke Harry's 10TH commandment. Try also 'not to be a dick'. This will give me peace of mind while I drink my beer.

You're onto it. I was tempted to add "a hot woman" after "a cold beer" but thought that may make me look a bit shallow so I'll stick with "a good book".
P.S. Not sure if this is the way James thought the discussion would go when he set up the thread. Perhaps Harry can put us back on track...
life is different for different species I guess..... for other species it's mostly food and reproduction.... but for us it's something else too

Courtesy of Douglas Adams, we know the answer is 42... but we still don't know what the question is. ;)

BIG trouble!

As long as it's not a cold woman and a hot beer.

Now that is shallow, Harry! Please mate, this is a serious discussion...

One could live staying indoors all one's life. But would that be life? No, whatever meaning it has -- whether we can make sense of it or not -- requires embracing the journey. Let us go forth then, my friends, and find the meaning together.

After a lifetime of contemplation and everyday problems of living, the only thing that makes sense to me is that life, as we know it, is a learning experience designed to improve ourselves from our past life.
This fits with the spiritual belief in the cycle of life and death. The only way we will be capable of reaching a state of Nirvana is through spiritual perfection. Then there will be no purpose in being re-born and we will join with the ever expanding Universe (or God).
If you believe in duality then Satan is the negative side of God. There is only one supreme being. Duality: black/white, light/dark; good/bad; true/false etc etc. every positive has a negative. We were given free will to choose our own path. The learning experiences during life can test the best souls. I am not saying my opinion is correct, just that I have not heard a more convincing answer,

That's an issue with the settings of your Goodreads account, not specifically this group. Try going into account settings and you'll be able to change whether you get notifications on site as opposed to via email, or you'll even be able to select no notifications at all.

C'mon guys! Dig deep. There's gotta be something more meaningful than that... (But if there ain't it's still good enuff for me).

― Lactantius

Whatever drives you forward, that is the meaning of your life. Go live it.

“To sum up: it is wrong always, everywhere, and for anyone, to believe anything upon insufficient evidence. If a man, holding a belief which he was taught in childhood or persuaded of afterwards, keeps down and pushes away any doubts which arise about it in his mind, purposely avoids the reading of books and the company of men that call into question or
discuss it, and regards as impious those questions which cannot easily be asked without disturbing it—the life of that man is one long sin against mankind.”
― William K. Clifford, THE ETHICS OF BELIEF
