Here are the ever so official rules for counting points:

1 point per book
1 extra point when you complete the Young Adult, New Adult and Inspirational Romance categories
2 extra points when you complete the Romantic Suspense and Other categories
3 extra points when you complete the Contemporary Romance, Historical Romance and Paranormal Romance Categories
5 extra books if you have a book in each category

You can do whatever you want with the "other" category. Skip it, use a genre the list doesn't have, repeat a genre, etc!

You can only count each genre once. (As in, no fair reading the entire backlist of your favorite Regency romance author and giving yourself a billion points for that.)

Point counting ends October 1.

Claim your points here. Write down what you read, what category it fits in, how many points it gave you and your point total. If you want to discuss what you read in depth, go go here.

Questions? Comments? Feedback? These can definitely be modified as we go. I figure this is all going to be on the trust system. I'm not checking your math for points or investigating each book to see if it absolutely, positively, definitely fits in the genre you're claiming.

(Disclaimer that this is not really that serious! I feel like this post sounds super-official, but just putting out some guidelines!)

Edit: Google Doc link to the checklist (Thanks, Mireille!)

Jess | 60 comments Question: did we decide that only "new" books can count for this? So, for instance, I can't reread His Very Own Girl for WW2 romance, right?

I don't think we did! What do you think?

I feel like re-reads should either be disallowed or limited. Like maybe 3 re-reads total?

message 4: by Jess (new)

Jess | 60 comments I like that! I really only want to do it as a last case scenario thing, but they might be needed, you know?

Yeah, and there might be some things I just want to re-read!

steph (goodreadscomhondagirll) | 33 comments Oh I like these rules. Nice job Katie! And I agree with the limit on re-reads. I like them but I would prefer to use them as a last ditch effort or if something has been sitting on my to-read pile for awhile and it fits a category.

Mireille Duval | 98 comments That's it, I don't want to do it any more, it just sounds too serious.

Do we still want to keep the October 1 deadline for this? Personally, I want to try reading them all, so I'm all for extending it.

message 11: by Mireille Duval (new)

Mireille Duval | 98 comments Well, if we extend it, who will win?! I was planning on winning since Jess is in a slump.

Hee! We can do a first half winner or something?

message 13: by Grace (new)

Grace (graizala) | 44 comments I'm all for extending it too! And yeah, first half winner works for me. It won't be me, but HEY I'M CATCHING UP.
