Hello all. I love to read just about anything, and I know I will get some good ideas to add to my out of control TBR list.

But I was also hoping you guys could help me find a book I read as a sample on my Kindle within the last 3 years.

The book is I think an urban fantasy and possibly paranormal romance. The main characters are males who are cursed/demon possessed. One of them can't tell the truth without pain...one (I think) is cursed to get into fights...

I believe the book also starts with at least these two men (just described above) trying to rescue someone. I hope you guys can help me. Thanks.

Yep! That's the series. Thank you. At first I didnt think so, but I think my sample was from one of the books that were later in the series and not the first one. Thanks again.

Henry Herz (nimpentoad) If you like urban fantasy and paranormal, consider the anthology Beyond the Pale by Henry L. Herz which will release on Amazon on August 1 (www.birchtreepub.com). Beyond the Pale features eleven short stories by award-winning and New York Times bestselling authors Saladin Ahmed (Throne of the Crescent Moon), Peter S. Beagle (The Last Unicorn), Heather Brewer (Vladimir Tod series), Jim Butcher (Dresden Files series), Kami Garcia (Beautiful Creatures series), Nancy Holder (Wicked), Gillian Philip (Rebel Angels series), and Jane Yolen (Owl Moon).

Praise for Beyond the Pale includes:

"Beyond the Pale features a stellar, diverse line-up, brimming with talent and imagination."
- New York Times bestseller Jason Hough, author of The Darwin Elevator

"From the hovel of a Middle Eastern hermit, to remote islands of Scotland, to a moss-dripping bayou road of the American South, and into lands uncharted, there is a singular truth: no matter where you go, you're never far from the darkness, the unknown ... the Pale. Beyond the Pale is a rich, diverse collection of tales that will haunt and inspire in equal measure."
- New York Times bestseller Rachel Caine, author of The Weather Watchers

"Beyond the edge of fear and dread, shadows tell each other beautiful and frightening stories. Crack open this book and listen to the voices."
- New York Times bestseller Richard Kadrey, author of Sandman Slim

"Beyond the Pale is the kind of thing to keep loaded on your reader in case you need a quick fix of fine fantasy by one of the field's finest fantasy writers."
- Nebula Award-nominated Greg van Eekhout, author of California Bones

"Light a black candle and crack open this collection of short stories from writers who are more than mere wordsmiths. A thrill runs up my spine as I wonder, could these scribes be messengers from in-between worlds sent here to prepare us for our own crossings? The veil thins and the candle flickers. Fiction? I’m not so sure."
- New York Times bestseller Frank Beddor, author of The Looking Glass Wars

Josephine McNabb | 45 comments I have an ebook out now and its called Fire and Fangs (Blood and Flames, #1) by Josephine McNabb if you're interested.

OddModicum Rachel (oddmodicumrachel) | 18 comments Oh that Lords of the Underworld series sounds intriguing! Thanks! BTW, if you're like me and constantly beating your head against walls to try to remember name of book or author and all you've got is a vague memory of plot or cover art... I just discovered that there's a group here just for that! lol Seriously, that is going to save me some brain trauma. ;) There's a link in my profile under my groups if you're interested.

Alyson Stone (alysonserenastone) | 194 comments I'm a Harry Potter fan and I love dystopia books. I'm looking for something like those. I've read The Hunger Games, Divergent, and started the Maze Runner series (not a super big fan of those.) I also like the Mortal Instruments. Any idea where I should venture next?

OddModicum Rachel (oddmodicumrachel) | 18 comments hmmm.. Hold on, let me check my handy dandy YA fantasy/dystopia list I've been keeping. K... peek here in the comments, at Message #10. Those are YA books/series (w links) that I've adored, and a list of ones I keep hearing amazing things about. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

My suggestions to you that I've absolutely loved are...
Penryn and the End of Days series by Susan Ee Angelfall
Daughter of Smoke and Bone series by Laini Taylor Daughter of Smoke & Bone
Darkest Minds series by Alexandra Bracken The Darkest Minds
Those are all amazingly good, such worthwhile reads.

Now there's some series that look great, and I'm hearing rave reviews on that suit your needs. I'd check out the bottom chunk of that list, as well. There's a ton more listed there that look so amazing... and they all sort of fall into the dystopian YA genre, so should be up your alley. Hope that helps!

A.M. Reynwood (amreynwood) | 5 comments Hello! I'm brand new here, but was wondering if you guys could help me. I don't usually read anything other than fantasy (read what you know you like, right) but now I'm looking for something more along the lines of sci-fi/steampunk, and have absolutely no idea where to start.

I really have little and no experience in these genres, so I could literally read the 'for Dummies' book on it, but I was just wondering if there was anyone out there who would be willing to give me some suggestions?

Jennifer (alphawolfseries) | 10 comments You should probably start small and work up to it then. I really recommend to check out the paranormal fiction Demon's Prize (www.alphawolfseries.com or www.facebook.com/alphawolfseries).

After that, try reading books in sci fi that you like from movies. Like AVP (alien vs predator) related stuff, or Star Wars.
