2018 Buddy Reads - Introduction & Sign Up
Hi all (and thanks Mary Pat),Would anyone be interested in Infinite Jest sometime this year? It's been sitting on my shelf for a while, intimidating me with its 1100 pages, but I'd like to get through it in 2018. Would anyone like to join me? We could go anything from 100 to 250 pages a week?

OK, folks! Gotta say - we are an ambitious group! :) I have gotten through all of the threads and have made my lists. I am going to get the January threads up shortly but I am also going to post them in this thread so that you can let me know if I have to make any corrections.
After that, I will update the buddy reads for 2018 here!. I will also confirm participants in this thread.
Thanks again to everyone for their patience in 2017! Here's to many great reads in 2018!

Ready Player One - Joan, Eirelyn

I have one series buddy read for January right now - Caraval. It is a two book series so Caraval would be read in January and Legendary would be read in February. Participants for this read are Anastasia, Eirelyn, Joan, Susy, Eunice, BMAD_Addicts.
Once again, please let me know if I need to make any changes.
So, I am a little confused about the Throne of Glass buddy read. Three different start months were suggested - January, February and June. I am going to make another suggestion....The seventh book is due out in September 2018. What does everyone think about starting in March? That means we will all be current when the new book comes out.
I have Anastasia, Joan, Scott, BMAD_Addicts, Susy listed as pariticpants.
Let me know what you think. (Keep in mind that we are supposed to start Legend of the First Empire in March too!)

I think we ended up with starting in January but I can start whenever the majority wants to.
The second and third place books for the January 2018 group read were My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She's Sorry and I Am Alive and You Are Dead: A Journey into the Mind of Philip K. Dick respectively. Is anyone interested in reading either or both of these books as a Buddy Read? As long as two or more people are interested, I will create a thread.

And do we start with Throne of Glass or The Assassin's Blade? The book sets before the happening in Throne of Glass.
Hi, everyone! I have updated the list of 2018 Buddy Reads here!. I took the liberty of adding the novellas for His Dark Materials. I read all of the books this year and thought they were well worth the time. And it is easy enough to remove them if folks decide they don't want to read them after the first three books.
Please take a look at the list and let men know if I have missed anything.

I have started Throne of Glass in January!
Generally, we read the "whole number" books in order before reading any "in-between" books and let the group decide whether they want to read them after the main books are completed. While they often provide more insight into certain characters and plot lines, they do not have to be read to understand or enjoy the series. If the group wants to approach it differently, just let me know.
I would like to join in reading of Salem's Lot in January..

I think I had the novellas in a different order, will have to check but am going out now.

I just put them in the order that I read them but it is easily changed to however folks want to read them. (I loved that series! I think I will read The Book of Dust this year!)

Oh...and is Legendary (Caraval #2) going to be available for the buddy read in February? I thought it wasn't supposed to be out until later in the year.Either way, I am personally still good with reading Caraval in January, as I've been itching to read it for a while. :D

Yes release date will be may 29th.
I won’t be doing Caraval Mary Pat. Next year maybe.
Thanks for catching the May release date on Legendary! I have put it down for May but will check in with folks to make sure they want to buddy read it then!
