I'm still in my reading slump but I have read more recently and I'm hoping this new book I started yesterday will help pull me out of it as was as some Secret Santas I'm involved in. Not moving fast on my remodeling but the plasterers finished their work and it is now up to me (well, my sister) to paint and lay new tiles on the floor. Then I can buy new book cases and make up my library. But for now December's books:

1. Read a book whose title starts with G.
2. It's the holiday season, so read a book about a holiday you celebrate at this time of year.
3. Winter starts on the 21st so read a book about winter or with the word winter in the title.
4. While I hesitate to recommend books, I'm going to recommend you read THE BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER by Barbara Robinson. It's a favorite of mine.
5. With all the celebrating and parties this month, read a book about food or a party.
6. Read a book that's been made into a Hallmark movie.
7. Since this is supposed to be the happiest time of the year, read a book about happiness.
8. December 15 is National Wear Your Pearls Day so read a book with pearls on the cover.
9. Your choice

Rachel Who's Sorry Now? (Grace & Favor Mysteries #6) by Jill Churchill -Jill Churchill 12-1-17
This was a decently written mystery. The characters could have been better developed, and the dialogue could have been a lot less simplistic. However, for being part of a series, I found that the book stood on its own well. Personally, I felt that the plot was a bit disjointed (view spoiler).

Written Off (Mysterious Detective #1) by E.J. Copperman -E.J. Copperman 12-4-17
This was a great mystery with well developed main characters and one of the most unique premises I've seen in a while. This novel was both funny and thrilling at the same time. I loved this novel and look forward to reading more of the series.

Love Unexpected (Beacons of Hope, #1) by Jody Hedlund -Jody Hedlund 12-5-17
I absolutely devoured this sweet Christian (understated with it though) historical romance. The characters were well portrayed, and I found the plot to be interesting. I learned a little about old-fashioned lighthouse keepers as well. I will definitely read more of this series.

Rachel Love Blooms in Winter (The Dakota Diaries #1) by Lori Copeland -Lori Copeland 12-8-17
This was a fun and sweet Christian historical romance. The writing style was fairly good, and the characters were well drawn. I thought the "long lost aunt or cousin" scenario was quite an amusing element of the plot, and I loved how the reality of that situation showed the depth of character in our hero. I will likely continue with the series.

The Legacy (Secrets of the Shetlands #3) by Michael R. Phillips -Michael R. Phillips 12-17-17
This novel was the concluding piece of the story that began in The Inheritance and continued in The Cottage. Therefore, this novel was also a well written and quite interesting Christian historical fiction novel with well developed characters. I enjoyed learning more about the personal histories of many of the characters and seeing several of them either start to change or continue to change and grow throughout the course of the book. (view spoiler) Overall, it was good ending to a great series, and it as well as its predecessors has earned a place on my favorites' list.

Rachel To Wager Her Heart (Belle Meade Plantation, #3) by Tamera Alexander -Tamera Alexander 12-22-17
This was the third and last novel of the Belle Meade series, which is meant to be read alongside the author's Belmont series (that I have already finished this year) because they are all set near post Civil War Nashville, Tennessee with the characters occasionally crossing over for cameo appearances in books they aren't featured in; however, this was the only Belle Meade novel where a character from the Belmont series didn't appear at all. Anyway, this novel was just as good as the first two novels of the series. It was a complex, sweet story, and I enjoyed the characters as they grew and changed. Overall, it was a satisfying conclusion to the Belle Meade novels.

To Be Where You Are (Mitford Years #14) by Jan Karon -Jan Karon 12-27-17
This is the 14th novel in the Mitford series. There are even more pieces of the story told in the points-of-view of Dooley and Lace as well as young Jack, showing that the author's main focus will now be on their little family, which I think will be especially fun. I also loved the point-of-view of Grace Murphy being part of the novel's overall storylines. I really enjoyed this novel and enjoyed seeing how Dooley and Lace's marriage is going and how some other Mitford characters in particular began to grow and change. I'm really glad that we aren't leaving the town of Mitford just yet.

Colleen Mertens | 6 comments So I read quite a bit this month. I started and love the Lunar Chronicles Series. I've read the first three and will probably read "Winter" early in the new year. I read a few Christmas books, including "Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor" which was the Hallmark movie "Christmas with Holly". I loved both the book and the movie. The book was better at developing the characters. It also had some actions from both happen sooner which changes the feel of the story. I read "Shepherds Abiding" which is the first time I read Mitford book. I liked that story and can see how people love those books. The story was sweet and many of the characters were gentle, caring people. I liked that story. Hope to see you all again in 2018. Hope to be better at participating next year as well. Happy New Year everybody!!!!
