Evan (naturescreed) | 5 comments My biggest gripe about these books is that every single novel cover shows him wearing a cowboy style hat but he has expressed he "doesn't do hats" multiple times in multiple books. Idk why this bothers me so... but it does.

...just had to vent that to others who might understand.

Madderakka | 43 comments I hate when the book covers don't match the characters. In another series I read, the main character has said many times that she only has one small tattoo, but the covers always show several. The author said that she really only gets to tell the publishing company snippets of the story line that they give to the artist for the cover art, so it's not something the author has much control over.

Kat | 7 comments Hahaha yeah. but that's why the cover has the hats though right?

Taliesyn | 51 comments It irritates Butcher, too. That's why Harry's keeps commenting on the things.

Richa Rai (richarai) | 22 comments On the other side, in Cinder Spires the protagonist is very particular about his hat and of course no hat on the cover.

message 9: by Ben Fiore (new)

Ben Fiore | 48 comments I do feel though, that there is valid justification for him to consider wearing a hat (not necessarily the one commonly depicted). What we DO know that he wears almost ever-presently is a duster - not just for style and concealment of weapons, potions, etc., but also it is often enchanted to be protective or even bulletproof. So it would stand to reason that having similarly protective headgear in his line of work would be advisable.

But yeah - I get the ire. I've just learned to ignore it because, well, the covers look really cool with the hats. It's like capes on superheroes - they serve little to no practical purpose, but they look cool in how they convey action in otherwise still images.
