Cadence Cavanaugh (cadencecavanaugh) | 37 comments The Passing is my debut novel.

I plan to continue to writ, but I'm not much of a social media person. I have a twitter and joined here out of necessity. Would love any feedback on my work, tips to help people maybe buying or sharing the novel.

I have word of mouth going and people who like the genre I'm writing in which is young adult/dystopian. But I'm extremely introverted to begin with. Any other suggestions as far as marketing? I've seen some videos to do giveaways/KDP promotions, which I plan to do as soon as my 30 days are ready.

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 80 comments I wouldn't dive straight into giveaways. I have done them but only with the first book of a series. That way you have a good chance of gaining follow on sales. Better to find bloggers/ readers that like books similar to yours and offer/request selective giveaways in exchange for a review. Once you have a few reviews, go for a reduced price promo with advertising.

Cadence Cavanaugh (cadencecavanaugh) | 37 comments Thank you so much for the information David! Do you happen to know where to find these bloggers/readers? I've seen some on youtube, but they specifically say they aren't taking requests etc..

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 80 comments Not easy, and harder than it was even just twelve months ago. Best is to join a few groups on here for your chosen genre. follow conversations or join in if you feel confident enough: most bloggers are also on Goodreads as active readers. You could also look into review groups on Goodreads. Look at books that you'd put into the same bracket as yours, and then at readers who have reviewed them to see if they have a blog or website and are willing to be approached. Have a look in the paid promotion thread on this group too, some good advice there for when you have a few reviews.

Best of luck :~)

I wrote this from my own bitter experience.

T.L. Clark (tlcauthor) | 145 comments But get social media friendly.
Create an author page on Facebook, you can then link it to Twitter, so one post on one gets automatically shared with the other.

Instagram is a lovely place. It's the most friendly in my experience, and readers can feel like they get to know you.

Learn which hashtags are the best to use for your genre, and use them wisely.

Congratulations.
But your journey is just beginning.
Promotion is back breaking. Yeah, look at the paid promotion thread (mentioned above).
Find your reader target market, and get chatting.

Good luck xx

Angel | 180 comments Build a following first, set up your social media Twitter, Facebook, etc. Test your writing out on sites like Wattpad by writing short stories or other works. It's a bit younger audience but there are people of all ages that used Wattpad as authors and readers. I built a following first with Wattpad, tried my writing skills out on the audience there and built a very good following there. But the audience is fickle as on any social media/writing sites. But it's what you'll need to expose yourself to the realities of today's readers and critics which will help you start to gain knowledge of this writing industry. I also started blogging. I use my Goodreads blog regularly, but talk about various things other than writing. First and foremost approach as a reader is better, which increased my following tremendously. Engage in Groups writing and especially reading groups often as possible. Goodreads is a start.

Pamela Harju (pamelaharju) | 41 comments Join Instafreebie to start building your mailing list and following. You can use an extract or preview of your novel or a short story or novella if you have one. You get your name out there, and people are quicker to pick up your stories there as they are free. Not all of them will buy your book, but it's a good way to start.
