Team Sherlock Holmes
If I'm reading the rules right, don't we have to completely spell-it-out a 2nd time in order to get the bonus points? Looking at some of the other team threads it looks like we are doing really well, although one team is scheduling to read DYSTOPIAN 3 times.
Put me down for "Daylighters" --- I had actually started it a while back just had never finished it --- then I'll move on to "Emperor's Blades" tomorrow.

Not quite sure...I've asked the mods and I'll let y'all know what they say.
Yeah, it seems to involve a lot of luck based on what genre you get. If a team is lucky enough to keep getting short ones, then they have an advantage. But oh well, hopefully we won't get a lot of long ones! It's unfortunate that we haven't got a replacement player for Riley yet. She listed herself as 175 books/year so we are missing a pretty heavy reader these first few days. At this point I don't think she's going to show...she doesn't even have a challenge bookshelf on her page :(. Hopefully they'll assign us a replacement soon...
Hi Shannon,
You don't have to read the word the second time completely to get points. If you did the word once, and then the second time got D,T,P then you would get 30 points for the second read

Good to know! Thanks Karen :)
Everyone, as you complete a book, please make sure that it is shelved on your challenge shelf and on your "read" shelf, as well as the date finished. If anyone needs help adding the date, or has problems with shelves, let me know.
Just FYI, the mods have updated the gaol from 1,000 to 2,000 due to the number of players and our annual book rates. The estimated time for the challenge remains at about 7-8 weeks. Is everyone ok with this?
Hi team!
Riley hasn't responded to my friend request so I have invited a replacement player, Angel, to join you and check in within the next 24 hours.
Would anyone like to step up as co-captain?

Hey everyone! I'm Angel and I'm the replacement for Riley :-) I'm really happy to be part of your team! this is so exciting!!!
I'm 20 and I live in Belgium. When I discovered the wheel-a-thon it was already to late for sing ups. I was so happy when there was new sign ups.
I read mostly urban fantasy, fantasy and new adults, but from time to time I like to read the classics.
I've taken a look at the letters that are missing for the second spell-it-out and I can propose to read a few books.
I could read The Summoning and The Awakening by the end of the week. If I'm not mistaken I have to finish them by Sunday 2am.
That would make up for a D (the serie is Darkest Power) and A. Or if it is allowed two D's. Can we use a letter twice for the same serie?
Welcome Angel! Glad to have you. You can have both books be a D, as you look at each book individually to see what you want to use: look at book 1 to see what you will use (series name, name of any character, title or author), then move to book 2 and do the same. We have 3 Ds available so might as well have those taken. :)
Welcome, Angel!!!!! Thanks so much for stepping in to join our awesome team :)And Heather, thanks for volunteering to be co-captain! I'd appreciate you help in double checking that page #'s meet the requirement. Also, that books finished are shelved correctly as "read" "(challenge shelf name)" and date finished. I'm checking as we go along, but I think 2 sets of eyes is better than 1 in case I miss something!

Heather is correct. It's on a book by book basis, so we could use the series name twice if you read two books from that series. For now, I put you down for one D. Once you finish the first book, we'll see what we need more, another D or an A. :)
I had started Farmer in the Sky by Robert A Heinlein before the challenge started so didn't know I could use it. I will have it finished, if not today, then tomorrow. That should cover the 2nd R
I just realized I've got 2 books downloading tonight: Half a King & The Book of Life. The 2nd means, I'll be re-reading A Discovery of Witches & Shadow of Night -- I'm crazy that way! Lol!
Don't know if they fit anywhere ....
Looks like we could use a G, R, D, and E so for Discovery there is of course Discovery or Diana, Gillian Chamberlin, Emily Mather. For Shadow we could use Diana, Gallowglass, Walter Raleigh, Queen Elizabeth/Abraham ben Elijah. I am right with you on needing to reread those two books too. I don't know if I'll be able to hold out to Aug 15 for the group reading of Book of Life. ;D
Psst...If you're looking for a specific letter to complete your team's spell-it-out, check out our Lending Library for Nook and Kindle users.

Should I remove Emperor? I know Discoverey and Shadow are very large books! And Heather is correct, we can easily fit them in plenty of places.
I just recently read Discovery of Witches, but haven't read Shadow of Night yet! At least now when I read it, I won't have to wait for the 3rd :)

Nope. No need.I finished Daylighters yesterday & I'm already at 50% for Emperor's Blades. I'll finish it today & start on the re-reads.

Great!!! :)
You're lucky on not having to wait Jaclyn! I'm terrible about not wanting to leave worlds I love so when Shadow came out I reread 1, then read 2. Then reread 2. Then 1, 2. 1, 2 again. Reread 2. At which point I figured I really should just move on because I had a few years to wait for 3. XD at least these were short. I did that with Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight Archives. Each book is 1000+ pages in hardback.
I do it too! Lucky for me, I didn't start Sanderson until after book 2 had come out! Sometimes, like with GRRM's GOT, I only re-read the last book since I've already read them so many times. I like to fully re-immerse myself into the world -- it helps that I'm a reasonably fast reader and fully willing to ignore my whole house & tell everybody to eat sandwiches, and by this point they are all already pretty well trained in that regard. Lol!I'm kicking myself about Emperor's Blades, since I'm really enjoying it and Book 2 isn't scheduled to be released until next Jan -- which is why I've already hit the pre-order button. ;). It's like Christmas when books have been pre-ordered & pop onto my iPad in the morning!
I remember a lot of Discovery, so it shouldn't take too long...it's the 2nd book I'm struggling to remember
Wow! You've read each one many times!! Is it both of ya'll's favorite series? My all-time favorite is Harry Potter. I used to re-read every book before the release of the next one, and I still re-read it all every so often. I also hate waiting for a next-in-series to be released! It's torture! I try to hold off on unfinished series' until they are complete or almost complete, but most of the time that doesn't work out. There are several ones that I'm in the middle of and anxiously awaiting the next one. And I totally agree Shannon, it's a great feeling to wake up in the morning and find new releases on my kindle that I had pre-ordered!! The next book I'm reading, The Last Town, is actually a long awaited conclusion to a trilogy I started awhile back. I had forgotten it was being released tomorrow, so I'm very excited!
I too have serious soft spot for Harry Potter! Before my kindle app, I dutifully stood in line at midnight for new releases & stayed up all night reading. I've read it numerous numerous times. Truthfully, though, my favorite series is George Martin's Song of Fire & Ice. But it is really hard for me to say 'cause I've got lots of series I adore!!
I did that too! Bookstore release parties were such fun! I've only read Game of Thrones so far. I figure if I read them all now, by the time he releases the next one, I'll have forgotten everything. Sucks not to even have a release date. So, I'm pacing myself on that series. But I'm with you...there are tons of great ones that it's hard to choose.
Finished Murder! It was good. On to Romanovs. I went to the midnight releases for Harry Potter too, 4th book and on. I would get them and then just stay awake until I finished reading them. I don't know if I really have a favorite series, but I do love everything Brandon Sanderson writes. I also read the Green Rider series(5th book was kinda weird tho). My first big series was Wheel of Time and I still need to read the last 2 books but it's been so long that I need to reread the whole series so I've been stalling on starting that and just reading one shots. Waiting for the Kingslayer Chronicle along with the new GRRM. One day...

GRRM??
Heather wrote: "George R R Martin."Ah ok. I haven't read any Sanderson, but I recently added a bunch of his books to my TBR because I've heard good things.
I am a complete fangirl. He has the most amazing magic systems, so unique and well thought out. I found him back in the days of dead tree books in libraries when Elantris was first published. After reading it I decided I was going to read everything he wrote and he hasn't disappointed me yet. Except the whole taking years to write books thing, but I'm rather impatient. A personal flaw.
I also loved Michael Sullivan's Riyrea Revelations & Rachel Aaron's Legend of Eli Monpress -- both those series were really good.Emperor's Blades is done!

Yay Liz! Noticed you're in a north Richland Hills. My grandparents, aunt & cousins all lived in Richland Hills most of my life, I even went to Richland Junior High in 7/8th grade --- a long dang time ago! With all these Texans on our team guess I should of mentioned I'm a transplanted Texan ;)
Great Lizz!! So I'll leave Angel's, The Awakening as an A, and you'll get the remaining D! Then all we'll need is an E, which I believe will be covered by Shannon's re-read of the 2nd All Soul's book. :)

I know what you mean. I've read books like that where it takes awhile to feel like you understand the world. That's so cool that you added Spirit Legacy! I hope I didn't build it up SO much that ppl are like "what is she talking about. It's not that great!" Lol but I did enjoy it. I think if you like ghost stories, you'll enjoy it too. :)
For your upcoming books, if you don't have a preference, I'd say go with a D since we have 3 (maybe we'll be able to read the whole thing twice?!) But, since we are doing bonus points now, please feel free to read whichever book you're most in the mood for :)
These are my upcoming books:
A, M, or I: The Angel Experiment (Maximum Ride series) (character Iggy)
G or D: The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion (character Don)
L: The Last Town
