I am having a new door and a tilt and turn door to the balcony from my dining room - looking forward to the new door! I can see daylight through this one!

message 1006: by Helen (new)

Helen | 3465 comments @Dave, I don't think they should be allowed to do that!

@Lynne, isn't it exciting, moving and getting new stuff...

Barclays cash machine didn't give me my cash Thursday, just a receipt. They said, Friday, that it was a purge and that it'll come back in 7-10 days. Went to my bank and was told to ring their banking dept on their free phone. Nearly failed the security test as I couldn't say when I'd last used my card to withdraw cash and I didn't know exactly what my mortgage direct debit was.

Dave Wood (pocket7976) | 775 comments Had a phone call from by bank last week, to report some unusual activity on my credit card. But I haven't used my credit card in months I say.

There response - Yes sir thats the unusual activity :) :)

Lynne - The Book Squirrel (squirrelsend) | 3122 comments @Helen - yes it is great! I have also get some more furniture too now I have a dining room again but went to a couple of second hands stores and got a lovely display unit in beautiful wood with lovely small glass panels with lead and a table and 4 chairs, not matching but will look fab together.

I also saw a lovely padded rocking chair painted and with padded back and seat in March but didn't get it but it was in the shop yesterday when I went for some paint to paint a few small tables I have also bought to dot around and there was the chair! I couldn't believe it so I bought it! Being delivered on Tues so have moved my lounge round for it.

When I lived in Bath, at the end of the summer, the spiders used to come in to seek winter lodgings in our sitting room. (I could understand it; it was a bright, warm room, with a nice high ceiling for cobwebs!)

I counted 16 one afternoon and with a visit from my spider-phobic sister-in-law imminent, (who would be sleeping in that very room on the sofa-bed) I got out the ladder, a glass and a postcard and removed them to the bottom of the garden, one by one!

Naturally, over the course of the next week or so, one by one, they all came back....

Em (emmap) | 2707 comments My daughters were horrified when they heard about guinea pig stew!! Apparently, they're never going to Peru...

I didn't bring up horse meat in disguise in a supermarket near them.

message 1036: by Deanne (new)

Deanne | 651 comments Could be worse, there's long pig stew.
Saw a stall on the continental market in Leicester that sold crocodile, kangeroo, beef, ostrich etc but had a notice which said that there was no horse meat in the burgers.

Guy Portman (guyportman) In Provence I saw horse and foie gras pizzas. Guinea pigs will probably turn up in an Iceland product at some point.

Dave Wood (pocket7976) | 775 comments Had a nice relaxing time at Castle Coch this week. Decided that I need to see some of the sights around me as I've lived 30mins drive away all my life but had never been.

No roasted guinea pigs in sight - but apparently the first meal served there included horse meat.

British and Irish writers, rather than just English, but you could try Sebastian Faulks or Ian McEwan or Sebastian Barry or Pat Barker.
