Depends on the nights, but won't have to do so many. Do have to run the emergency lists, track down surgeons and patients. There will be a pay rise too, haven't had one of those in two years.
On 4 nights this weekend, so taking the kindle with me just in case we get a break.

Pay rises are a rare beast at the mo' so enjoy and don't spend it all on books.

Tony Mac (tonymac) | 31 comments Just been to the top of the world's tallest building in Dubai, the Burj Khalifa. Castles made on sand indeed. The lift took less than a minute to rise 124 floors and my ears popped! Not recommended for anyone with Vertigo, and Tom Cruise is no longer hanging outside on pulleys.

Congratulations Ian!

Lynne - The Book Squirrel (squirrelsend) | 3122 comments I have just checked when I joined and am surprised to find that I have been here since Aug 2008 and have 2919 comments. Didn't think it was so long.

Helen | 3465 comments Congrats Ian. How do you know when you joined and how many comments?

I've used my new breadmaker today, really easy and lovely little loaf.

message 611: by Em (new)

Em (emmap) | 2707 comments I think if you click onto your profile it'll show you when you joined goodreads and hovering over your avatar/photo shows number of comments - you have made (1318 so far, you must be quite talkative!)

message 612: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa O | 22 comments Ahhh... homemade bread. I can practically smell it now!

I love making bread from scratch- although I only ever do it at Easter for some reason. Plus I don't have a breadmaker.

Thanks peeps. Helen has the same bread maker as me. It's great if you live on your tod. I love it - Morphy Richards Daily Loaf if anyone interested.

I went to the Uk Book Club home page and then clicked on edit membership - the join date/comment details are at the top of the page.

Lynne - The Book Squirrel (squirrelsend) | 3122 comments I am going to put my bread maker on before I go back to bed to sleep then it will be ready for when I get up again to go to night shift. I am going to make homemade Butternut Squash soup served with creme fresh and nutmeg and a drizzle of olive oil.....yummy with the fresh bread!

That sounds so yummy! I feel inspired:)

Lynne - The Book Squirrel (squirrelsend) | 3122 comments Soup and warm bread went down well thanks - now all I need is a quiet night with patient and lots of reading!

I am! ALthough still trying to get my voice back, lost it a week ago :(

message 620: by Em (new)

Em (emmap) | 2707 comments Peril of the job, although, wasn't it half term last week?!

message 621: by Helen (new)

Helen | 3465 comments Yes it was half term. Cleaned thehouse all weekend, collected mum from the station Monday, lost voice Tuesday. Earache started Wednesday, muggy rather than hurting though. Then Mum went Thursday whereupon I came down with a doozy of a cold. Back to school Monday and am now getting over the cold. Voice came back croaky Wednesday. Exhausted and in need of a hol now. Not helped staying in school til 6.30 two nights mind!

Dave Wood (pocket7976) | 775 comments Went to see Avenue Q last night. A musical with puppets that is pretty adult. Think Sesame Street meets South Park. The main song in Act 1 is the 'Internet is for Porn'

We arrived to find a girl who couldn't have been more than 7/8 with her grandfather. Totally inappropriate and I've been ranting about it all week.

But the highlight of the show was the young girl turning to her granddad and asking "whats a slut?"

ha ha ha.... it is a bit too adult for anyone below teenage years.....
though am sure I know someone who took their 7 year old son to see Pricsilla queen of the desert!!!

message 625: by Helen (new)

Helen | 3465 comments Dave, that made me roar! Think it's hilarious when people take kids to things that aren't appropriate and then shuffle out. Take it yours didn't.

message 626: by Deanne (new)

Deanne | 651 comments Remember going to see Jurassic Park with friends, in the queue ahead of us was a couple with two children about 7 and 9. My friend who had seen the film before said rather loudly that she thought the film too scary for younger children. Couple glared at her and went in anyway, ended up sitting behind us. Five minutes into film children screaming and crying hysterically, minute later all four left.
My older brother and his wife always used to see a film first if they weren't sure before taking their two children to see it. Avoided the embarassing shuffle out.

message 627: by Em (new)

Em (emmap) | 2707 comments My kids are wimps, I mean that kindly (they take after me) but they they still watch the beginning of Disneys Beauty and the Beast from the doorway. Come on, you know the beast isn't REALLY bad - he's just sad!!

message 628: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jenmm) | 118 comments It took about seven years before I could get my eldest to watch ANY movie - because (of course) all movies have scary bits or sad bits. Disney movies were some of the worst - the early scenes of Snow White spring to mind!
Now, of course, he feels he should be allowed to watch anything regardless of its certificate! Much to his consternation, Mum + Dad are not impressed by arguments that his friends are allowed to!
I hate the fact that everyone assumes kids movies have to be all action and special effects (becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy - if that's what you make that's what they want and then they deem anything else boring!) We keep showing our kids old movies just to try to reset the balance (we're pig-headed that way) - some work, some don't but generally if the story is good enough they don't even notice the lack of special effects (I bet they don't rush off to tell their friends what they've been watching though!)

message 629: by Helen (new)

Helen | 3465 comments When my daughter was small we had to vet everything, she was so sensitive she'd cry for ages. Hocus Pocus passed as it had a happy ending so we let her watch it like all her friends had. Cried for hours. "But the cat isn't with them any more".

Deanne | 651 comments Did anyone see the meteorite last night, I just happened to be outside at the right time and watched it heading south over Notts and Derbyshire and into Leicestershire. Looked like a huge fireball and hardly any sound. My friend and I stopped talking to watch it go by.

I wish I'd seen it. It'll have crashed to earth somewhere bringing superpowers, no doubt. Now there's someone just coming to terms with being able to fly and see through walls. Tcha! Some people get all the luck.

message 633: by Timothy (new)

Timothy Pilgrim (oldgeezer) | 224 comments I heard a lot about it. I was inside center stage at Butlins all night listening to sixties bands! Wouldn't have seen it anyway as it was snowing/raining all day and is still raining here!
I always miss things like that!
Mind you the was a huge sperm whale washed up in Skegness, so there was a bit of excitement 'off camp' but I don't think the meteor got it as it seems it had been dead for some time!
All the best Paul Rix [oldgeezer]

You can't take your money with you when you die there aren't any pockets in a shroud! Sounds perfect to curl up on with a good book! Just enjoy it!

Brilliant idea - my spare room is still full of boxes having moved in over 4 years ago.

Using it as a reading room may just get me moving to finally clear it :)
