I don't bother with them. I prefer looking at the books that other people in this group with similar tastes as me read.

message 502: by Weenie (new)

Weenie I occasionally have a scan of the Recommendations, added a couple maybe but you're right, most of them bear no resemblance to the books you'd want to/have read!

message 503: by Helen (new)

Helen | 3465 comments When I click on mine it tells me why it's been offered and I can see links. Although they aren't necessarily books I'd choose.

Nick 2E0NAQ (nick196742) | 630 comments I have just added a peace of writing to my profile that I wrote for my English course.
Please let me know what you think of it.

Helen | 3465 comments Just discovered my bedroom ceiling has water coming through it between plaster board panels. Waiting a roofer, who is charging me £85 just to visit. Hope it's easy to find the damage. Course, it's still pouring.

Nick 2E0NAQ (nick196742) | 630 comments You hear of writers getting writers block. Can Readers get readers block? Because I have just finished my first book for this year only yesterday and today I went to my book shelves to choose another I just cant get into any of them. Not even the two I got for christmas, "Dead Centre" by Andy Mcnab and "The Haunting" by Alan Titchmarch.

I do that sometimes Nick, I have a pile of books and just don't fancy reading any of them so I end up not reading for a couple of days, then buy a book and tend to then read them later. You also find you enjoy the book more if you read it when you want to not just because it is there.
You have read 1 book already, I have not finished mine yet. I'm finding it hard to fit in reading at the moment as I shattered!

I wish I had Reader's block as I'm meant to be revising. Instead I have new books luring me away from partial differential equations.

Why don't you think of each book as an independent variable and the time it takes to read them as the partial derivative (with respect to that variable).

Does that help at all??

Wikipedia making it sound like I know what I'm talking about since 2005

When this happens I usually stop reading for a few days then come back again and see what grabs by fancy. At the worst I simply head to a book shom and buy something new then come back to the TBR pile later.

message 518: by Dave (new)

Dave Wood (pocket7976) | 775 comments A thought of for the new year. Does anyone fancy a group meeting in real life.

I though maybe somewhere central with lots of books - London? Maybe on one of the May Bank Holidays?

If there's any interest I'll set up a separate topic.

LOL - yep mine must breed - but the books keep getting thicker and thicker.

@Helen Red and yellow, and pink and green, Purple and orange and blue. Would presumably be the correct order of colours?

Katie (--katie--) | 69 comments Found this hotel when randomly browsing.

http://www.libraryhotel.com/index.cfm

Every room is devoted to a category in the Dewey Decimal system. Wish I could afford a visit.

Louise that hotel looks amazing, I might start saving now.....

I think I'd like rows of coloured old style penguin books.....

Just wow - I'd need 2 weeks holiday.

A week to enjoy the hotel and its contents - and a week to further explore New York

Lynne - The Book Squirrel (squirrelsend) | 3122 comments Re Library hotel - Now that would be worth going to for a get together!

message 534: by Nick 2E0NAQ (new)

Nick 2E0NAQ (nick196742) | 630 comments I thought you would like to hear this as you all seem to take interest in what in do.

I found out when I arrived at my English course that my tutor wanted to enter me in for the student of the year. However they took too long in sending Caroline the forms she missed the closing date.
I have had a big smile on my face all day ok! Caroline missed the closing date but that was not her fault . I feel so proud that I have improved so for Caroline to even think to want to put my name forward and like Caroline said there is always next year.

Helen wrote: "Wonder which colour I'd have most of."

I have a confession. My novels ARE in colour order; starting with white, cream , pale green (penguin modern classics), dark green (virago), blue, orange (penguin), red & lastly, black.

I do try and keep all novels by the same writer together - Margaret Atwood completely throws the system, as each of her's is so different!

My art books, however, are in size order....

My husband wonders how I find anything, but I know exactly where to look for what I want (it's just that nobody else does!!!!!)

message 549: by Em (new)

Em (emmap) | 2707 comments I think this comment is very revealing about you Liz. My books are pretty random, but I have a sixth sense for where specific books are located - lounge bookcase, bedroom bookcase, under the bed or on top of the wardrobe!
