Anyone else irritated at how you have to nominate a publication in the 'This topic is about ' section before you can post a new topic on here? Also, if you don't type fast the I'm not a robot tick box unticks itself. And when you finally get it to accept a topic. It deletes it next time you visit the page. Pain in the posterior!

You shouldn't have to nominate a publication - I never have. What happens if you just don't do that?
James, I've cleared the publication (and moved you to the holding pen). If you'd like The Elements of Style added back I'm happy to do it. It doesn't matter if you don't select a publication when creating a topic.
I've never had any of those problems. I don't bother with the other boxes, and don't even get one that says 'I am not a robot'.
If I don't select a publication, it throws up an error message, deletes everything I've written in the post and insists that I do. The I am not a robot click button comes up every time I try to start a new thread.
Just tried again. The error message I get in a yellow panel is:Please complete the captcha to create the topic.
I ticket the I am not a robot button and tried again.
Another error message came up: Context can't be blank. I assume this is the Book this topic is about panel.
I tried again just selecting a random publication and finally it accepted my thread, but it didn't show anywhere in our forum!
This seems to be random as I have tried five or six times over two days and my topic finally posted, but I don't know what I did differently.
I've never been asked to select a Publication but I have always got a Robot Captcha picture set-up to complete ... and, for some reason, I must keep on getting them wrong on here because I get it repeated at least three times before Goodreads will finally agree to accept me as a Human Being?! - LOL! ;o>
I STILL have to battle it out with that thrice damned robot thingy, I fuggin' hate it...I wish there was someway of getting rid of it.
I've started quite a few threads on the Politics forum, and only ever have to put the thread title, then post it. I've never had the robot thingy come up, nor do I put anything in the other boxes.Strange isn't it?

Beep! - Clang! ... yes, it certainly is, MO ... Whirr! ... I've no idea why on Earth Goodreads ... Bang! ... keeps on insisting that I must prove to them ... Whistle! ... that I am a Human Being?!! ;o>

Sounds like your wheelchair needs to go for a service.
I seem to have overcome the problem but I'm still not sure of the precise reason.1. I set up an account as TwoddleBungler and signed in using my Amazon login. When I try to start a new topic that way, I have all sorts of Captcha problems and although I can comment on other people's threads, I can't create my own.
2. I set up another account (also called TwoddleBungler!) without going via Amazon. This time there was no problem creating a new thread.
