Elizabeth Norris Hi everyone! I'm Elizabeth. I'm 26 and live in the US. I love to read (obviously), write for fun, go hiking, play video games, and garden. I'm going to school (for not much longer), and I'm a stay at home mom for the time being. My favorite genres are horror, thrillers, sci-fi, dystopia, mystery, and romance. I'm going to give YA and Fantasy a better chance in 2018 though!

Sammie has been sorted into Gryffindor! Welcome!

message 6: by Sammie (new)

Sammie (srbetler) Oh my, it seems I'm a lioness. How did that happen? Someone better check on the Sorting Hat. I suspect it may have had one too many butterbeers, and I'm now concerned for its well-being.

Anywho, I'm Sammie. *waves* I'm a wife, mother, and eventual ruler of the not-quite-free world. I live in the US with my offspring, my partner in crime, three cats that have accepted me as their human, and three dogs that I'm not sure have figured out yet that I'm their human.

I'm a writer, also, and I'm actually just finishing the second-to-last draft (hopefully) of my novel and will begin pitching it in January, so fingers crossed that I can trick some poor, unsuspecting agent into taking it on. xD

I used to read all the time, but I got so busy in adult things that I guess I forgot how important reading was, so I've been trying to change that this year (and hopefully will continue with it next year). I've got a new Kindle, an ever-growing to-be-read pile in the library in my house, and I'm ready for 2018!

Nice to meet you, Sammie! I am the OTHER Sam of this book club. Actually, one of the other Sams. XD

I am crossing my fingers for you with the writing adventure!! That sounds incredible! It definitely takes a lot of dedication to publish a novel and I am just so excited for you. Keep us posted on how the pitch goes!!! I might need to order a signed copy of your book XD What genre would you classify your novel?

Looking forward to helping out with getting back into the swing of reading. :)

Lisette (illusie) Thank you for the welcome, Sam.

I'm Lusie and I am from the Netherlands. I love reading, cooking, and baking. My favorite genres are thrillers, fantasy and YA fantasy.

Sainabou Omg we have to be enemies now!

message 12: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Norris Sam- I’ve had a blog for a long time for fun, but just recently changed it over to a book blog, which has done wonders for my reading habits. Maybe someday I’ll try to write a novel for NaNoWriMo. :)

Welcome Sammie and Lusie!

message 13: by Elizabeth (new)

message 18: by Allison (last edited Dec 03, 2017 05:18PM) (new)

Allison Hello fellow Gryffindors!

I’m Allie from Michigan. Looking forward to being involved here! This year was not the greatest reading year ever and I’m hoping being involved in a few groups changes things going into 2018!

message 19: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Norris Hi Allie! What kind of books do you like to read?

message 20: by Allison (last edited Dec 06, 2017 11:44AM) (new)

Allison Hey Elizabeth!

I’m partial to the Classics, Historial Fiction, Mysteries, Thrillers and Cozy Mysteries. I will read Non Fiction if I’m interested in the subject and some YA if the characters aren’t too silly lol.

I’m not into Romance, Horror or SciFi.

How about you??

*Wdit: I read your intro post so you don’t have to type them all over again lol.

message 21: by Lisette (new)

Lisette (illusie) Hi Allie. I'm good, thanks. Very busy with school. How are you?

Welcome Allie!

I only love soms classics like Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell and Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier . Did you like those Allie?
I do love Mysteries and Thrillers as well.

message 22: by Allison (new)

Allison Oh, I didn’t know you were in school!

I’m well, thanks :)

I’ve read Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier it’s excellent! GWTW is in my tbr.

message 23: by Lisette (last edited Dec 13, 2017 11:17AM) (new)

Lisette (illusie) I am training to become a nurse, I started in september. I like it so far.

I love the writing style of Daphne du Maurier.
GWTW is a very thick book, but it is worth it! I loved it even though the book is hardly uplifting. Most of it is sad, but so well written!

message 24: by Allison (new)

Allison That’s great!! I think you’ll do well as a nurse :)

Every year I say this is the year but maybe 2018 will be the year for GWTW...

message 25: by Lisette (new)

Lisette (illusie) Thank you Allie.

I hope so. It's so good! I devoured the book in 5 days...it was just so hard to put down.

Gone with the Wind and Rebecca are two of my favorites! I love those ones! :) I agree with Lusie -- Once you start GWTW, it is very hard to put down.

message 27: by Lisette (last edited Dec 26, 2017 02:50AM) (new)

Lisette (illusie) I've read a book with a lion on the cover.
Magic Breaks by Ilona Andrews [24-dec-2017] ★★★★
Magic Breaks (Kate Daniels, #7) by Ilona Andrews

I like this series :)

message 28: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Norris Awesome! I'm still looking for a book I want to read with a lion on the cover. Allie, I never even saw your question about what genres I like. I'm sorry! You said you saw my other post, but I'm discovering new genres I like all the time. I never really opened up to new things until recently, so I'm excited to read some different genres next year. :)

message 29: by The Dust Bunny Reader, Headmistress (new)

The Dust Bunny Reader (thedustbunnyreader) | 1086 comments Mod
@Lusie I have not read many books by Ilona Andrews, but I have had many people recommend her books to me. I think that is one of the authors I will try to pick up in 2018.

@Elizabeth I feel the same way about reading more of a variety. Looking forward to it! :)

Melani has been sorted into Gryffindor! Welcome!

message 33: by Grace (new)

Grace Leverett (gracelev) Hi everyone! I’m Grace. I love to read (and joined this club to challenge myself to read more), play any simulation games (Sims, Stardew Valley etc), and I also do calligraphy and bullet journaling! My favorite genre is probably dystopian and sci-fi, however, I will read almost anything haha. Recent favorites include Scythe by Neal Shusterman and Foolish Hearts by Emma Mills.

message 34: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Norris Hi Grace! I also really like dystopian and sci-fi books, so I'm hoping to read a lot more books in those categories this coming year! Sims is the best, and I already know I'm going to love Stardew Valley. I own it on steam but I haven't started it yet because I know I'll be sucked in the second I start it lol. I'm also a huge Nancy Drew fan, and I love Fallout, Skyrim, Borderlands, Diablo, etc. How cool that you can do calligraphy! You must have a beautiful bullet journal.

message 35: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Norris Yay, welcome Melani!

Welcome, Grace! I love Sims! I think my favorite part about being under the weather is being able to play this game a lot. XD

Do you two have Sims 4 Cats and Dogs? What do you think of it so far? I feel like my game has been super duper glitchy since that pack. Still love it though XD

Also, Elizabeth -- I have died twice in the Nancy Drew game I am currently playing. This is junior detective mode! :D :D So bad!

Sofia has been sorted into Gryffindor! Welcome!

message 38: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Norris Hi Sofia!

Lol I just noticed steam has the really old ND games and I started playing Treasure in the Royal Tower. It’s one of my favorites! I was squished by an elevator last night though haha. They just announced that Midnight in Salem will be released in Spring of 2019 btw! It’s a ways away but it’s nice to know the company is moving forward. It will have a new game engine and new voice actor for Nancy.

I don’t have cats and dogs yet! The last one I bought was vampires and I haven’t even tried it out yet.

message 39: by Melani (new)

Melani (wolvenwriter) | 9 comments Hey Elizabeth and all others :) I am trying to get through my divorce so I haven't read much lately but I did get You Are A Badass from Santa this year. So its going to be read in the near future. I'll try to remember to get on sometimes :)

message 40: by Allison (new)

Allison Hi Melani!

Oh I’m sorry....hopefully books and Goodreads can help you forget and give you some moments of peace.

Welcome all newbies :)

message 41: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Norris Aw Melani :( I know you had mentioned things were a little rocky a while back. Well I hope everything goes as smoothly as it can go for you and your family. Like Allie said, escape into some chatting or books whenever you can. It's nice to have another friend from book club on here! :)

message 42: by Melani (new)

Melani (wolvenwriter) | 9 comments Thank you both! Yeah it is nice to see some familiar faces. I have been so disconnected from NP and GR that I haven't come and checked on anyone. I have been a horrible friend lately. It's...up and down. With the divorce my husband is hoping to get with someone I considered a best friend so I have that to look forward to. I'm hoping to read some tomorrow before going to my boyfriend's parents house for a new years party. All of you stay safe!!

message 43: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Norris Have a good time! I’m just staying home with my husband and will MAYBE stay up till midnight to see the ball drop lol.

@Elizabeth A new voice actor for Nancy!? Innnntteresting! I wonder how close it will be. The original voice for Nancy gets stuck in my head a lot. Just like the other day...I forgot to put the garbage bin liner back after Zech took out the garbage. When I went to throw something away, I couldn't help but think, "Can't check that off yet!". Maybe I play too many video games. XD

@Melani You Are a Badass sounds like the perfect book right now. Lol! I am so sorry you are going through these ups and downs right now. I second Elizabeth -- I hope it all goes smoothly as it can. We are always here for chatting! Real life gets in the way with reading a lot, but I hope being a part of this group helps. :)

message 45: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Norris Sam- Haha! You have no idea how often I say “It’s locked” in my daily life lmao. I’m wondering the same thing about the new voice! In the trailer she sounds more like a teenager...which I guess is good right? She is supposed to be one after all, or a young adult at least. But part of me is nervous they’re changing her.
