I confess I cheated. I have many readings to do for my job in February, so I actually read it in January... Sorry! πŸ˜…
But we can say here in Italy February arrived a few hours ahead... 😜

Debbie (dmbrown) | 1246 comments Perfectly acceptable. I'm sure you finished reading it in the wee hours of the a.m. this morning there.

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1376 comments Yeah!! So glad you liked it. I love this exercise so we can clean out our books that are collecting dust.

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1376 comments Debbie: I finished A Fair Prospect and it was 3-stars.... thank goodness it is out of my TBR pile. It has been there forever and I was hoping someone would choose it so I could clean off that spot on the shelf. Thanks for helping me out.

message 62: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 1246 comments Well, I'm glad you're pleased it's off your pile, but I think everyone picks for someone else hoping it'll be a 5-star read, or at LEAST worth 4 stars.

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1376 comments It had been a while since I had seen any comments on this work. I didn't look at the reviews on purpose. I wanted my own fresh perspective. I certainly got that. Oh well. Onward to next time.

Mary, I'm glad I read this. Thanks so much for your pick. It is aptly named, as it's "For Want of a Nail" in the shoe of Darcy's rented horse that prevents him from getting to Pemberley when Elizabeth is touring it with the Gardiners. That delay changes the course of their lives. Here's the link to my full review:

Hi. Just finished my Pick and sorry to report that it was only so-so for me. To be honest, it could have been any Regency-era somewhat angsty romance as the story had very little to do with canon. The author's writing style also seemed somewhat simplistic to me and the plot kind of meandered along and at times became a little repetitive. Ah well, at least it's one of the older ones off my TBR List.

Hi. Just finished my Pick and sorry to rep..."

Bummer, that. I've read a few JAFF that do stray far from the original and could just be any old historical romance, really.
But yes! Yeah for another one off the pile, Anji!

message 68: by Anji (last edited Feb 10, 2018 02:58PM) (new)

Anji | 291 comments Yes, this one didn't seem to have any connection with canon at all, apart from character names. Yes, it started when Bingley arrived at Netherfield but the entire party arrived there together and Elizabeth was unconscious when she first met Darcy! No insult at the Meryton Assembly, no DHP, no Lady C!

Well, that does go off the rails right at the beginning, then.
