It's Not Jane Austen, But It's Really Good
I've read many historical Christian romance/fiction authors. Tracie Peterson is one author I haven't read much of, but it's on my list to try more of her books. I've given two of her books 4 stars. My Valentine is one of them. I've found some of her books on Amazon for free , so you might want to keep your eyes open. Also, she's been around for quite a while, so you might be able to find quite a few titles . :-)
I have a question for everyone. There is a debate in the romance genre, the subgenre regency romance they are saying that Georgette Heyer has influenced it too much and the wrong kind of influence it is not authentic and too childish and she portrays the ton all wrong and that is a bad influence on writers and readers.
What do you think?
Since none of us was alive during the Regency, who can say what is authentic and what is not? I've studied the period pretty extensively and find her work quite true to the class she's writing about, at least when it comes to pursuits and attitudes. What are the complainers wanting? More sex? More dirt and smells? More violence and suffering? More realism in general? Her works are true to human nature but basically fantasies, and I am content that they should be so. I'm happy to read Heyer's Regency romances and don't particularly enjoy reading non-Heyer Regency books.

I've seen little snippets of that here and there. I really cannot give an informed opinion. But I do enjoy Heyer's Regencies as well as other Regencies that don't feel "wrong." I have read a couple of Regency romances where the author admits that the language is not completely period, and that they've chosen to do that for the convenience of their readers. And since they acknowledge that openly, I don't feel bad about reading their books. (Erin Knightley)
For me, the bottom line is, if I see something that is most definitely WRONG, it kicks me out of the story. And avoiding that is what I think should be the aim of the Regency author, and I think that's more important than trying to debate whether Heyer was spot on. If other authors want to do something differently, that's fine! They should do their homework just as Heyer did hers. :-)

I agree let the authors be open about it if they do something different . Yeah Ms. Heyer really did her research. But in the end you're right it is up to the reader.

There is a bit of spy mystery mixed in with the transforming of a London dock worker.
No problem... I can't wait to read it. I am so far behind on my reading. My goal is to finish my September scavenger hunt choice before my October Someone Else Pick it for me. That is right around the corner. I need to get on the ball.

I just LOVE Anne and LMM. I've had good luck getting LMM audio books from my library via Libby.
I thought someone might be interested... especially if their young people might like their own ebook version.
Love Anne of Green Gables. It was my favourite book when I was little and I have read it more times than I can count but that was the Norwegian translation. Will be fun to read it in English. Thank you for the heads up Jeanne.

Freebie: One Haunted Evening28 Reviews: 64% 5-stars & 28% 4-stars
This is book 1: Three authors telling the same story through three perspectives. A gentleman hosts a Samhain Masquerade Party for his 5-friends at a castle he inherited in the lake district. A haunted castle.
I had to read the reviews to determine the rating. One review said it was not sexual at all nor was it occult, but it did have a ghost. So I guess we will just say it is paranormal. Also, this book only featured 3 of the stories and it was mentioned in a review that there was a book to follow with the story of the other gentlemen.
I finally found the next book: One More Haunted Evening at $3.99.
16 reviews: 69% 5-stars & 25% 4-stars
This one was rated as steamy. I'll wait and see if this price goes down.
$0.99: The Naked Marquis25 reviews: 72% 5-stars & 16% 4-stars
Book 2 in a series of 9 books: This sounded like fun. I assumed it was MA = Mature Audience rating. With the word naked in the title, passionate in the blurb and sex scenes mentioned in a review. Yep, that says mature audience to me.

Thanks!! Looking forward to some reviews here before I commit to read it.
Ha! I just posted that one on my Facebook freebies post, Jeanne.
Kirk, I've only read books by two of the authors. They weren't amazing, but they were still good. These are novella-length so not too big of a commitment.

With 6 novella length stories, you can read one, put it down and pick it up for a quick read when you have the time. Not a lot of time commitment needed. Plus, if you don't like one, skip it and go to the next.
Yes, exactly. I'm not one who can read straight through on an anthology anyway (not even one I participated in, LOL).

That's a book I loved a LOT! Already picked up the sequel. Bernard is such a peculiar fellow--it'll be interesting to read how he adapts to marriage!

Master of Her Heart: A Christmas Tale
The 4-reviews vary greatly: 3 at 5-stars and one at 1-star:
There was a statement in the blurb about Dr. Bell returning from the future. That gave me pause. So I guess it is buyer beware.
Let me edit the above post. Master of Her Heart: A Christmas Tale actually is a short 50-page Christmas story that follows Master of Her Heart: A Time-Twisted Tale of North & South. That book has 19 reviews: 58% 5-stars & 21% 4-stars and is priced at $3.99. It is a time travel story so that should explain the visit from the future in the other short. Whew! Sorry for the confusion.

There are only 6 reviews: all but one are 5-stars and the one star could only say the writing was amateurish. Since I love descriptions of Scottish territory, this looked interesting.
