Debbie, I have two very long books I stopped in the middle of and want to go back to and thus you will have a week, at least, to surge ahead. You go, girl, and wave as you take off.

Very nice, Sheila! I'm curious about The Other Elizabeth Bennet after seeing you and others enjoy it. :)

I let my curiosity get the better of me when Elin posted this one. This is super dark and depressing with no HEA. There's a rape. Major P&P characters die, and a character is murdered violently in graphic detail. Even though I don't care for the subject matter, the writing is compelling and the story is very well done. Heartbreaking. Not for the faint of heart. One-chapter short story.

OMG, why do I want to read it? It sounds so terrible that I'm compelled to read it. Why, Debbie? XD
Edit: It wasn't that bad. Like reading some Gothic tale.

I think I am scarred for life. My senses were shocked, horrified and I am sick at heart. OMG! Poor Lizzy and Darcy. I want to cry, to wail to scream at the injustice. OMG! Not for the faint of heart. I'll listen to you in the future. Oh-My-Gosh! How can I survive this? Whew... breathe... just breathe... it was just a story. I keep telling myself... it was just a story.

Just realized you were probably referring to Inspired Reflections: Three Short Pride and Prejudice Variations, which I DID award 5 stars. Thought you meant The Other Elizabeth Bennet: A Pride and Prejudice Variation Novella since that was the book Sophia mentioned.

Anna, I caught the Gothic tone, too. However, this felt more "real" than other Gothic stories I've read, which usually have some paranormal or other unbelievable elements to their plots that keep me from completely buying into them. Doesn't seem to have hit you the same way that it did for Jeanne and me!

Grab that glass of brandy and take a big gulp! I am not reading that one.

Yes, it was Inspired Reflections. I kept putting it down and returning to it and even then with 3 so close in premise and details it was difficult to even remember one from the other and I had to look back - should have reviewed immediately after reading each one.

It must have been the insufferable heat that messed with my head😏.
Not yet to my knowledge. Maybe she messaged someone. :) Or, maybe she's still out of it. They give you some good drugs for back surgeries.

Hi, Debbie, thank you so much for the kind message and please convey my appreciation to the others! I am feeling pretty good but maybe not yet up to surfing much, virtually or otherwise.
The surgery was very successful but I have been having a lot of kilowatt blood pressure and low oxygen levels so it is an effort to concentrate. I will go to an acute rehab place after my release. Energy gone now! Please convey my appreciation to all and I will be back among you when I can

I'm glad to hear the surgery went well and recovery begins!
Hope you feel better soon, Abigail.

Exactly! We have our six and are done and are very blessed. Though one of them is so tough on me. But we did want to adopt Dan's cousin's three children, but were unable to..... unless we gave up the two foster kids in our home at the time. I was hopping mad at that time, and it still really frustrates me that we were not allowed to take the children bearing our last name into our home ... and they ended up being adopted by non-family members. But I am at the point where I am GLAD we aren't having more. So it's probably good that we have six rather than eight. (I doubt Beth would have been born had we taken those three, and she is such a delight.)
Anyway -- as Kirk would say, TMI, maybe.
But Jeanne, you're right -- God makes no mistakes. We just don't always like his answers!
