Abigail Bok (regency_reader) Thanks for the kind thoughts! Marlene, per your inquiry, we’re moving up to 24-hour caregivers next week in preparation for my vacation—uh, recuperation!

Debbie (dmbrown) | 1246 comments Glad you've got that covered, Abigail. Including starting it beforehand so you can be there to help with the transition. May everything go smoothly!

Debbie (dmbrown) | 1246 comments I just finished another last night:

121. A Most Welcome Event by Trixfan - 4 stars
www.fanfiction.net/s/11207088/1/
Fairly short, very poignant. I was surprised and in tears at the end. Told from Mrs. Bennet's point of view, who "awakens" thinking she's only 19 years old and married to Mr. Bennet for only a few months. The story is excellent. The writing flows nicely despite the many, many, MANY spelling and punctuation errors. (But it IS unpublished.)

Did you ever see the movie Roman Holiday, Jeanne? I mean, I know the book is excellent on its own, but I LOVED that movie! I fell in love with Gregory Peck watching that one.

Oh, now that does sound neat that the reader gets to see the older couple when they were young.

message 208: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 1246 comments No, Mrs. Bennet BELIEVES she's in that time and is shocked to find that her "yesterday" was over 20 years ago. It's an amnesia story.

Yes... I did see that movie. They don't make them like they used to. What fun.

Debbie (dmbrown) | 1246 comments Read on planes (3 legs to get from Myrtle Beach to LA!) on the way out, but on the way back I got to watch a movie I missed when it was in theaters: Murder on the Orient Express!!! SCORE!! (Even though I didn't do as much reading) Had a lovely time with family at our great-niece's college graduation, even though it was outside and much colder than anyone anticipated.

Whoa! You sure did get some reading in and a big mix it seems. Cake and Courtship and I have a reading date at some point soon. And, I'm always up for anything called Confounding Caroline. ;)

I enjoyed that latest Murder on the Orient Express. I ended up hitting Amazon Prime for And Then There Were None and Crooked House, too.

Congratulations. You certainly got a lot done. I have seen Murder on the Orient Express on PBS and now in the theater. Loved it. I didn't recognize Kenneth at first!

Debbie (dmbrown) | 1246 comments You know, Sheila, I'd forgotten he was in it and wasn't watching for him, but within the first few minutes it dawned on me. Loved the opening segment where the three holy men from different religions are suspects in a crime, he reveals the culprit, and correctly anticipates the path of the bad guy's attempted escape!

And Sophia, I need to see those other two! Never read Crooked House, but I loved Ten Little Indians (a.k.a. And Then There We're None). Agatha Christie's books are such classics! I've seen and enjoyed the Robert-Downey-as-Sherlock-Holmes movies, too. Just the right amount of tongue-in-cheek. Have you ever seen Murder By Death? Came out in the mid-70s. Great parody full of exaggerated detective movie tropes.

I've really been enjoying him as Ironman. I've been semi-watching the Marvel movies with Dan, and Ironman is one of my favorite characters. I'm so glad to know he played Sherlock! Awesome!

Yes, you and a few of the others will all be up in Darcy's Library shaking hands and celebrating, for sure. :)

Marlene | 307 comments I haven't seen Wonderwoman yet. My other favorite is Captain America. Really, I truly think all the characters I've seen so far have been cast superbly.

message 226: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 1321 comments I really want to see Black Panther. It was highly rated. Captain America is one of my favorites also.

Marlene | 307 comments Jeanne, how can it possibly be??

Sheila, my husband said Black Panther was excellent!

message 232: by Debbie (last edited May 20, 2018 08:22AM) (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 1246 comments Congrats on adding to your "Read" shelf, Sheila. I did read A Most Welcome Event: P&P Alternative recently, but the GR listing must have been added very recently so I didn't rate it there. Will have to hunt it down on my Austenesque reads and add that!

I saw Black Panther 5or 6 weeks ago. It IS a great flick. Good mix of action, humor and message. Love that there's a "token" white guy in the mix! (Think of how many action flicks there are where that ratio is reversed!) All the acting is excellent.

I know I saw it very late in its movie theater run, but it's still very surprising how quickly it's out on DVD and Blu-ray.

message 233: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 1321 comments There are so many superheroes movies which have been released...even the Hans Solo one, which I want to see. My husband doesn't do movies so I either go alone, with my Son-in-law or wait for it to hit TV. I will have to see if it is on "On Demand" on my cable as they gifted me with 6 free movies for Christmas and they are good until the end of June and I have 1 or 2 still to redeem.

message 234: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1376 comments My husband won't go to the theater either and I won't go alone. So I wait for the DVD. I think it coming out so quickly is due to their making so much in the theater and now intend to get those high returns on the DVD/Blue Ray from those [like me] who didn't get to see it. It broke records on it opening and I bet it breaks records again on its DVD/Blue Ray release.

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1376 comments Wow! Lenora... great numbers and I agree with your stars on # 124... yep... that one will blow you out of the water... OMG!

This story was # 55 on my early reading list. It was pretty good for a first time fan-fiction writer. For those who have not read it... here is the link. There are abuse warnings... the Bennet family did not treat Lizzy very well. So... just saying. The author was very good about giving trigger warnings.

Debbie (dmbrown) | 1246 comments You must have gotten an ARC, Sheila. Lucky you! I intend to pounce on this when it's released.

message 244: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 1321 comments Yes, I did get an ARC but I know how many others are just as deserving. Your reviews put mine to shame and I thought of you immediately when this was offered to me. But selfish me - I wanted so much to read it. You will enjoy it. I will also reread it when released as it had not been fully edited but...more importantly is just begs to be reread at a slower pace.

message 245: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 1246 comments Oh, Sheila! My reviews most definitely do NOT put yours to shame!! You silly girl! Different styles, and you enjoy angst a heck of a lot more than I do.

message 246: by Susan (new)

Susan (vesper1931) I am safely sitting in the Colonel Brandons' library and I am pleased that I have achieved two of my aims this year

1 - I have got my unread historical mysteries down to 150 ebooks left (from about 300)
2 - and I have read all my Regency JAFF ebooks - about 150. None left to read (though I still have some modern ones - about 25 - to try and read.

That means that I can buy some books now, - shouting and jumping for joy - though I am aiming not to buy any Darcy/Elizabeth stories. I have found over the last year or so that I prefer other JAFF stories.

So Mary Bennet book(s) here I come
