Two books; very similar names; out at about the same time --

Elizabeth Adams is getting good reviews

Kate Speck not so much
November Twenty-Seventh: A Pride and Prejudice Variation

Debbie (dmbrown) | 1246 comments The different ways Lizzy tries to get out of the repeating loop get pretty outrageous. Not one to take seriously, obviously, considering the basic premise. I think the author pulls it off nicely.

message 453: by wosedwew (new)

wosedwew | 440 comments I want to read that one -- trying to catch up on a few others first.

Thanks for your recommendation!

wosedwew | 440 comments Yes -- it's good to hear Debbie is on the mend.

And Teresa, I hope your medical procedure was a success. Feel better fast!

Mary | 245 comments Teresa, hope everything went according to plan on Tuesday and that you're home and not in too much pain. ☺️🎈

message 458: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 201 comments Everything went fine. Mine was minor compared to Debbie's. I had a gastroscopy. I've been having a lot of trouble with my stomach. It seems to be ok. Have to go back to clinic in eight weeks for results of biopsy. I didn't have any sedation, just a throat spray so it wasn't the most pleasant of experiences. But I was fine afterwards.

message 459: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 1246 comments It's all good news here! I knew my recovery from the first hip went very well, and that was the best outcome I thought to expect. But I was a zombie for at least 5 days right after the surgery in March. This time, I woke up in the recovery room and felt relatively clear-headed within a half hour. It was the same surgeon and the same anesthesia practice, but maybe they gave me less sedation for this go-round. Whatever the reason, I'm not complaining! Already had my first PT appointment, and my therapist is pleased with the amount of flexibility I have this soon after surgery. It helps that I know from experience exactly how to move to minimize discomfort--you'd be amazed how challenging it can be just to get into/out of bed or shift position when I'm trying to sleep at night! Overall, my pain level seems to be lower, and I don't have the shakiness I had previously for the first 1-2 weeks. Feeling very blessed! Thanks for all the prayers and good thoughts!

Ah, that explains it. Thanks for catching that misunderstanding.

Kate Speck is an author I've learned to avoid.

So glad to hear you are doing much better this time around. I do understand about feeling like a Zombie. I could neither read nor listen to any books for a long time after my operation last August.

message 463: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 1246 comments Teresa, may your biopsy report be completely clean!

message 464: by Teresa (new)

Teresa, I had one of those when I was 16-ish. I didn't like it at all even though I fell asleep almost immediately when they began the procedure. They must have given me something. Have you tried probiotics? Maybe something to try for the time being if nothing has been found.

message 468: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 201 comments Thanks Marlene. I think I've tried every remedy known to man at this stage but they might be worth another shot. I'm watching what I eat at the moment. All bland stuff and I love my food so not easy.

Debbie (dmbrown) | 1246 comments Well, one thing about recuperating from surgery: Can't do much besides sit and read!

175. To Save and Protect: A Pride and Prejudice Variation - 3 stars
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

176. Through Pemberley Woods: A Pride and Prejudice Variation - 5 stars
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

177. Half-Right - 4 stars
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

178. The Correction of Folly - 3.5 stars
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Since I AM in Colonel Brandon's library, I feel it's appropriate to mention that my #178 is a story that focuses on his character as much as Elinor Dashwood (who marries Colonel Brandon in this version). There is even a dash of Pride and Prejudice thrown in for good measure.

message 481: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 1321 comments Oh, that sounds like one I would like to read but you only gave it 3.5 stars so I must read your review first.

Great progress, Debbie. I have to check out the other two: Half-right and Through Pemberley Woods.

Absolutely crazy, tongue-in-cheek, 6-chapter short story. One innocent young lady and several of the most hated P&P characters mysteriously turn up dead. Fun stuff! Check it out!
