A man buys a cube and solves it, and out pop several mythical creatures and he becomes the most powerful wizard in the world and the reincarnation of (I think) King Arthur. i think it is "something Chronicles"

He lived with his parents and his brother, he was in high school or college, and he liked to do intellectually challenging things. In later books he becomes a male phoenix.
It was also on kindle unlimited, might not be anymore though.
