The Coffin Path
by Katherine ClementsFirst published in 2018.
★★★
Janice wrote: "It sounds intriguing. I've added it to my wishlist."It does have quite an intriguing premise. Unfortunately I was quite disappointed with it, despite the 3 star rating. I very nearly gave it 2 stars but the last 50 or so pages were really good and saved it somewhat so I bumped it up a star.
Fourth book completed:Badge 1, Book 4

The Chalk Man

★★
I really like the black cover, I wonder why they changed it to the orange one? Too bad you did not like it as much, but it is another book done for the challenge and that is what counts.

Yes, it's a shame I didn't enjoy it but like you say, it's one more book ticked off this challenge. And I enjoyed our buddy read discussion. The comments were more entertaining for me than the book.

I always like Almeta's spoilers and Sandra and Margo can be fun too. At one point - I could have abandoned the book and not cared, but I think besides the awful things that happened in the story, what I really liked was the way the revelations (or in my case - surprises) were so nonchalantly delivered.

Yes, Almeta's comments are always fun to read. I enjoyed everyone else's insights too. It's fun to see how our opinions differ and what each of us takes from the story. I could easily have abandoned the book. If it wasn't for the buddy read, I probably would have done. It was that which pushed me to continue on to the end.
I like group reads. It's great to see a story through multiple eyes. I am a very reactive reader - I like to share my feelings immeadiately. I have to admit I struggle to read long paragraphs though. Short and snappy works best for me. I also tend to get lost in the middle of my own sentences lol

There have been so many books I have read on my own that I would have loved to have read and discussed with others, The Toymakers being the most recent.

Peggy wrote: "I put The Toymakers on my wishlist in my online bookshop. I'm going to buy it soon."Yay! 🙂
Suzanne wrote: "Thanks for the recommendation of The Toymakers. I just added it to my tbr list!"That's good to hear, Suzanne! 🙂 It's a book that deserves to be more widely read IMO.

Janice wrote: "I'm glad you enjoyed Circe, Lisa."It was amazing! Unfortunately I am currently suffering from a huge reading slump which is why it took me so long to finish it. I think Madeline Miller is such a great writer. Both of her books have been 5 star reads for me. I can't wait to see what she writes next. In fact, I am now going to reread The Song of Achilles to see if it helps me to get out of this slump. I'm sure it will.
Janice wrote: "I hope you get out of your reading slump soon, Lisa. It's a horrible feeling, isn't it?"Thanks! Yes, it is a horrible feeling. I think this has been the longest I have ever been in a reading slump.
