Cat Cat | 8 comments hi. I've noticed on one than more books that if I read a book wich was split in two or more it doesn't apear as read when I see the same book in one edition. I saw it with Casa Buddenbrook, vol. I by Thomas Mann Casa Buddenbrook, vol. II by Thomas Mann and this book Buddenbrooks The Decline of a Family by Thomas Mann
as well as with this one Calea regilor volumul 1 (The Stormlight Archive #1.1) by Brandon Sanderson Calea regilor volumul 2 (The Stormlight Archive #1.2) by Brandon Sanderson and this book The Way of Kings (The Stormlight Archive, #1) by Brandon Sanderson
is it a permanent issue on this site?

Books which are split into multiple volumes would be separated from editions which appear all in one volume, so it would make sense that the complete edition wouldn't show as read if you hadn't marked it as such.

However, librarians are volunteers and have no control over site functionality. Your question may be better answered in the feedback group- https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/....

lethe | 16359 comments If, however, the volumes have been sold only as a set, not as separate volumes, they may be combined with the one-volume editions. In that case, there should be only one book record for the volumes.

Oh, goodness. How to know if they were only sold as a set? I'm sure publisher listings are available for some, but for older editions that could be tricky. That possibility hadn't occurred to me. Thanks, lethe!

ETA: It appears the Brandon Sanderson books were indeed sold separately, but I can't be sure of the other title.

lethe | 16359 comments Sometimes it is clear, as in this example: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1....

But I agree, for older editions, especially pre-ISBN, it may be impossible to research.

Gloria | 88 comments As another example, please see these Hitchcock editions before we are interrupted by the companies that wish us to buy their items: https://www.goodreads.com/work/editio...

That is not a correct example. Those editions should not be combined, because they do not have the same content.

When I said one record, I meant one page (see my example in comment #5), not several volumes added as different editions and combined.

Gloria | 88 comments My apologies. I should have added that that was a "possibly incorrect" example, which you got.

lethe | 16359 comments Thanks for alerting me to it. I have now separated the editions to the best of my knowledge.
