Saul the Heir of Isauldur (krinnok) | 209 comments I don't know if there's a thread like this one already, but I couldn't find one. So here I am.

Others might have the same problem I do. Usually, when I finish a book that doesn't have an immediate follow-up, I find myself unable to land on something else to read. I jump from book to book for a week or so before I finally settle into one and read it.

So, this thread is for people to ask the community about what they should read next.

For my part, I already have a shortlist of what I'd like to start:
1)Magician: Apprentice
2)The Broken Sword
3)The Lies of Locke Lamora
4)Sabriel
5)Assassin's Apprentice

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2348 comments I've read all of those except for The Broken Sword, and that's on my TBR mountain.

I'd say my favorite there is Locke Lamora, but if unfinished series with slow author annoy you, pass for now.

Assassin's Apprentice is excellent, and a slow burn. Hobb is one of those authors that makes a slow pace work for her, so it doesn't usually feel slow. That said, it does annoy some. I've read it twice, and continued with all the Elderlings novels. I still have the last two to finish,

I really enjoyed Magicians Apprentice and Sabriel. I'm reading The Lies of Locke Lamora with this group coming up soon. And I gave up on Hobb, I might try again someday 😊

Beste | 1163 comments there is a BR for Lies of Locke Lamora in December.

Saul the Heir of Isauldur (krinnok) | 209 comments @Beste That's right! I'll hold off on that one for now, then.

I'll give Assassin's Apprentice a try. It's about time I read something by Robin Hobb. I've heard so much of her, but never really done my reading.

Anni | 5066 comments Good Choice, I love her books! As Chris said, they are a slow burn but it is amazing how everything comes together in the Elderlings series. :)

I've also read all of those except for broken sword. The only one I didn't like was Sabriel... it was kind of boring. The others are superb!

The only two I haven't read of these is Sabriel and The Broken Sword. I liked the other 3.

For me, my goal is to get books off my IRL life shelf.

Mayim de Vries | 2948 comments I have found this excellent list of best debuts and I didn't know where to post it, so I am sharing it here:

https://www.barnesandnoble.com/blog/s...

(I wish it had the "want to read" button or was somehow linked with GR)

Anyway, in case you are looking for the book to read next, there are some excellent suggestions on this list.

Agree about Sabriel... I didn't get much out of it, either, unfortunately :/

Dang! That's one of those I keep thinking to retry, like maybe it wasn't the book... maybe it was me. So many people rave about it. I'm glad to have you reinforce that I'm not alone lol.

Great list, Mayim...thanx for the share. I just finished Frankenstein and it DID elicit one of my bookessay writing jags 😂 but I'd never even heard of Tea With the Black Dragon and the blurb sounds very intriguing...adding it...

Talia | 19 comments I've got a bunch of to-read books on my list but I'm not sure which to read first or if any of them are even available.

I would appreciate it if I showed you some pf the books I want to read and if someone who has read them could tell me which one I should read first. I would love that!

message 16: by Talia (new)

Talia | 19 comments 1. Vain (the seven deadly sins series) by Amelie, Fisher

2. Graceling by Cashore, Kristin

3. Throne of Glass by Maas, Sarah J.

4. The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl: Squirrel Meets World (this is more of a humour novel but it looks pretty interesting anyway)
by Hale, Shannon

5. The Raven boys (the raven cycle series) by Stiefvater, Maggie

message 17: by Talia (new)

Talia | 19 comments There are a lot more books on my to-read shelf than that (57 to be be precise) but I've got to take baby steps.

message 18: by Talia (new)

Talia | 19 comments It's all apart of this goal I've set for myself. You see I made a goal on goodreads to read at least 30 novels by the end of the year. These are some other books I'm interested in. Feel free to add them to your list if they interest you.

1. Watership down by Richard Adams

2. Darkfever (and the rest of the Fever series) by Karen Marie Moning

3. Prince of shadows by Rachel Caine

4. The Percy Jackson series (I never read that when I was a kid. Technically, I'm still a kid now so it's not too late)
and finally...
5. The Cruel Prince by Holly Black

Talia | 19 comments So which one of the ten books do you think I should read first?

A_ bookbound _soul (a_bookbound_soul) | 0 comments Have you read Harry Potter? If not start with it first. If yes then read Percy Jackson series. I recommend this since I have not read any other books you mentioned . Percy Jackson is a good series .

The fever series - starts off slow in the first two books - the last two books are really really good. In fact please ensure you have the 5th book ready because the 4th book has a crazy cliffhanger.
