It was a dark and stormy night; Meg Murry, her small brother Charles Wallace, and her mother had come down to the kitchen for a midnight snack when they were upset by the arrival of a most disturbing stranger.

"Wild nights are my glory," the unearthly stranger told them. "I just got caught in a downdraft and blown off course. Let me be on my way. Speaking of way, by the way, there is such a thing as a tesseract".

Meg's father had been experimenting with this fifth dimension of time travel when he mysteriously disappeared. Now the time has come for Meg, her friend Calvin, and Charles Wallace to rescue him. But can they outwit the forces of evil they will encounter on their heart-stopping journey through space?

Chapter 1: (view spoiler)[At first glance I kind of feel bad for Meg because of what is happening to her at school. Also, the whole not knowing where your dad is or when he is eventually going to come back is oddly terrifying. I don't know how I could ever live like that. And now that she was making some hot cocoa - I want to go and make a cup of hot cocoa. I wonder what else is going to happen - I'm super excited for the rest of this book because I really want to read this book before the movie comes out! (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 3: (view spoiler)[Uhm, after that is it weird that I'm a huge fan of Calvin?!? Other than that, I can totally see how hard it is to accept not knowing everything because I honestly don't know everything but for Meg who is still trying to figure out how everything works and such - I can totally see this has a big challenge point for her. I wonder if she will ever fully accept it. I'm also super excited for this adventure to go and save her dad! (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 7: (view spoiler)[Oh my god, the guy with the red eyes is so cool. And creepy, very very creepy! I don't even know how Meg and Calvin just sat there and watched the whole Charles thing play out. And now he isn't himself anymore which is making me freak out a whole bunch. I just want everyone back to normal and I want them to find their dad so badly. This place gives me the creeps. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 10: (view spoiler)[What the hell is happening in this place?!? It's beyond creepy but I'm so sucked into this book that I don't even mind right now. It's completely interesting and I haven't been able to put down the book once. So a lot has happened - they kids found Mr. Murray but Charles is still not himself and they had to leave him. Meg was injured but she's slowly starting to heal. I feel like I haven't mentioned it but I really like Calvin's character and I like how he is on this journey with Meg. Shipping them together - even if it never comes true. I'm also imagining the look on Meg's moms face when she sees her husband again! (hide spoiler)]

Finished: (view spoiler)[WOW! This was so freaking good! And I'm pretty sure I'm still one hundred percent confused as shit too. I love how Meg is better and then she had to face one part of the adventure by herself. She was the only one who could go save her brother Charles from IT. Why? Because she was the closest to him and she could provide Charles with the one thing that IT didn't have: love. It was a very sweet ending with everyone united and happy again. I'm really glad that I read this book and I seriously can't wait to see the movie now! (hide spoiler)]

Meg became a bit annoying at the end and I don't know why it was always underlined that she was, what, less intelligent than the boys? I didn't expect that from a female author. Chapter 1 and 2 (view spoiler)[ First, I have to say I loved the whole book. There were a few things that seemed a bit odd to me but I decided to just go with it. For example, I was a little confused as to why the Mother would bring Mrs Whatsit into the house with no questions asked, feed her and then let her just go on her way. Seemed a bit strange. I really liked Calvin and his attitude of just calling it like he sees it. (hide spoiler)]

I remember starting this book when I was young, but I guess I must have lost interest because I never finished it. However, I will definitely be reading the entire book this time through.

Chapters 1-3
(view spoiler)[I like how this book starts with so many questions to draw you in. It makes you want to read more to find the answers. For example, the current questions I have are: Where is Mr. Murry? What is the tesseract? How does Charles Wallace know certain things? What is unique about Meg? Who are those three mysterious ladies?

Although, I enjoy having the desire to read on because I seek answers, I have to admit that I am a bit confused. I know I am only a few chapters in, but I only have a slight idea of what is going on. I am sure things will be explained more clearly in the next chapters (hopefully!). (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 4
(view spoiler)[I think L’Engle introduced us to Calvin quite abruptly. He just kind of joined along Meg and Charles Wallace, and suddenly they are all good friends. I could be missing something, but I just felt like Calvin’s appearance felt a bit forced.

I can’t say that I am drawn in by this book, or at least not yet. I feel like things aren’t well explained or described (for example, “something like a horse but at the same time completely unlike a horse…” my imagination can only do so much with that description!). The story feels a bit rushed as well. I’m hoping that things improve and I start getting into the plot soon. (hide spoiler)]

I am glad that I am not the only one who is confused about what is going on. I almost feel like I've missed major details, but this is just how the story is written. I am only at chapter 5, so I'm hoping things clear up and start to make more sense in the next few chapters.

Chapters 5-7
(view spoiler)[I feel like I keep just accumulating questions and never seem to get any answers. To add to my list in a previous comment, I wonder about the following: how did Meg and Charles Wallace’s father discover the tessarect? What are and where do Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Which, and Mrs. Who come from? I know they said they were stars, but are the stars alive in that world, and how did they survive and become these new creatures? What is the Darkness, and why is it bad (what does it do)? Hopefully, things will get clearer in the following chapters.

I haven’t been finding the book that exciting, but Camaztotz was kind of interesting/creepy, especially how everyone does things identically. I want to know the background of the man with the glowing eyes too. This is the first part of the book that actually makes me want to continue reading and find out what is going on. (hide spoiler)]

I'm listening to the book and Mrs. Which's voice is really annoying.

It's good to hear that it gets better. I just finished the first book, and I don't really know how I feel about it. The whole story seemed a bit rushed.

Sadly, I didn’t like A Wrinkle in Time nearly as much as I wanted to. The beginning felt rushed, and I was confused for a good portion of the book. I did, however, find the second half to be better than the first. It made more sense and seemed to have an actual plot to it. I didn’t really like any of the characters. Overall, it felt like L’Engle had an idea and then just wrote it down as quickly as possible before going back and adding in a few vague descriptions. (hide spoiler)]

I'm not sure how I'm liking this book. I'm at odds since I don't know if she meant for the readers to project world problems into this story or if it is just a story. Hmmmm...

I completely agree with not know if I'm reading more into it then I should be. And I think its even worst in the 2nd book. However, I'm now on to the third and I think the story telling has greatly improved - at least for me :-)
