A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 1608 comments I was writing a review for a book on poisons I finished a couple of weeks ago, plus a summary of the contents and I ended up looking up thallium, arsenic and mercury poisoning. Got me thinking - what's the oddest or most dubious thing you've looked up?
I've done - whether salamanders are edible; various poisons; chemical possibilities for dragon flight; amputations and various diseases.

Over to you...

Will Once (willonce) | 3772 comments I once did a bit of research about star wars onesies in adult sizes. Boy, did that take some explaining with the Mem!

message 3: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) I've done research into Sikh attitudes to gender, 1920s Country House ettiquette, 14th-century laws on homosexuality, disused Tube stations in London and Hobbes' theory of the social contract.

Not, alas, all for the same book.

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments I did a lot on Anarchist Theory and the Theory of Violence by Marcuse the other year. I did wonder if I was going to get a knock on the door.

message 11: by David (new)

David Hadley Did some research on sex toys and bondage gear for the last book.

That was before hearing testimony from a computer forensics expert witness, though.

Now I'm a good boy.

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Why is it that the geeks can recover anything incriminating, but NOT several thousand lost words on a WIP?

If it was one of my drafts I would assume the computer itself deleted it out of embarrassment.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments The typo in this thread title is really annoying me.

Change it then. You have the power! Actually I hadn't noticed it until you said it.

David Edwards | 417 comments Returning to the original theme of the thread you might think taking an interest in The proof of the necessity of killing anyone who curses the Prophet or finds fault with him might get someone into trouble. But it doesn't. 'al-Shifa' continues to be recommended by Islamic Scholars.

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments Many years ago (in 2001) we were going to Washington. We wanted to visit the White House, so I looked it up on the internet. Being in America, I assumed it would be .com. I forgot it was .org, but soon shut my browser down !!!!!

I notice it every time - but don't expect spelling and punctuation to be correct in blog posts - would be too exhausting.

(Except in mine - don't dare let up on standards because my kids would laugh at me.)

message 27: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments Mine are mostly for work (my book ones tend to be 'weather in Iceland' 'Viking ships' etc). I've searched for the effect of an overdose of umpteen drugs, toxic doses of many of the same. Causes of cardiac arrest. Effect of drowning. 'ECG rhythm dance', that one was fun!
A few days ago, I was looking up a particular piece of equipment used by the military in trauma for children. Called a Broselow tape (basically you lay a child on it and it shows you their height and all the calculations you need for that child). Except I misremembered it, spelt it completely and utterly wrong and ended up clicking around frantically as I tried to get off the list of sex tapes it pulled up for me... while using the uni wifi!!!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments No more typo! Yay!

Oops - but you didn't do it on purpose or part of a pattern - and as Patti said, it's their fault for not having filters.

Jason Chapman | 17 comments As a writer I have looked up all kinds of weird stuff on Google. Purely research purposes. If you're a serial killer novelist I'm sure your searches will raise a few eyebrows at GCHQ, lol...

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Unfortunately my spaniel has a bladder problem, I’m inundated with incontinence adverts. I shall have to google some really whacky items to confuse it.

David Edwards | 417 comments I’m inundated with incontinence adverts as well, although I've never searched for it. Likewise hair restoration. I think it must just be my age :(
