Creating/completing unclaimed author profile

I haven't done many author profiles (& never photos) but I have assumed any positive & relevant information is ok. I prefer author's own website or publisher's website, but have used reputable newspapers.
One trick I've found is you have to know the full birthdate to use that field. If you only know the year, you put in the description
New librarian here and I'm not sure how to handle the creation/edition of unclaimed author pages. Most of the information from the discussions I could find within this group or on the librarian manual where about changes that were either made by the author himself or asked for (to librarians) by the author.
When that is not the case:
* is it ok for a librarian to add the birth date, gender, bio, etc. of an author? (I know the photo would have to be under a free use license or in the public domain, but what about other information in there?)
* is there a limited number of possible sources for bio information or can we use whatever credible blurb we can find? In the cases where a librarian updated an author's bio information (from the discussion in this group) it seems that the information came from Wikipedia in most, if not all, cases... what about authors who do not have a Wikipedia page?
* is there any restriction adding a video to an author page?
If there are any other comments regarding the creation/edition of an unclaimed author profile that come to your mind, please let me know!
