Thank you all for making this such a huge sucess
Lisa thank you too for giving us your time

Here's our Mid-'Week question

What if they had shown up at your door.
Would you be traveling with them?

Good question. My immediate reaction is to say yes, I would join them in a heartbeat. Who doesn't love a good road trip with friends, even ones you haven't seen in years? Sure they have things they need to work out, but they're also having fun together along the way. But, the reality of the situation would depend on where I was in my life. If I was happy and content with where I was, I don't think I would jump in the car that very minute. A planned trip, yes. Something out of the blue, probably not. If I too needed an escape, then my bags would already be packed. Jenna, Nicole and Claire all have situations going on in their lives that they'd rather avoid, so taking this trip is a way of escaping reality. All issues can kind of be pushed to the back burner, until they're ready to deal with them. I'm not sure any of the women would have jumped along for the ride immediately if they didn't have issues they were trying to deal with.

Karen Laird (shadetreebookreviews) | 228 comments Great question. How appropro. There were 3 of us in high school. I hadn't seen the twins in 35 years. We stayed in contact by email, phone, and fb, but time , life, and distance kept us apart.
Three months ago one of the twins passed away. Janet tried for two days to call and text me to let me know Janice was dying and to come quickly. My sister was finally contacted and called me. I left immediately for the hospital, as we have moved an hour or so away. She died before I got there and we never got to say goodbye.
Janet and I would hope in a car in a NY minute and road trip someplace fun just to be us and to mourn and to celebrate Janice if opportunity presented itself.
Even now we get together after all these years and it is like we have never been apart.
Our lovely hubbies are getting to know each other because when we get together the rest of the world ceases to exist.
ohhhhhhh road trip sounds wonderful. Know any senior Disneylands?

Ang from OZ | 1690 comments What a great question Deb. I'm not an impulsive person by trait. So sadly I'd probably say no to a out of the blue road trip. I am like Nicole in the respect I like to have things planned, write lists and have to have everything organised. Maybe one day I'll throw caution to the wind, and just be spontaneous! I am still in close contact with my group of best high school friends, we've all been through something in our life's so far, a few have divorced, became single parents and have problem children. I wish they were readers because I know they would enjoy Random Acts of Kindness. But alas, I am the only bookworm of the group!

Susan, have you ever heard the saying "Nothing is really lost until your Mum can't find it" :) I wouldn't get far either I'd be thinking of my fat cat going without her snacks!! Bad things happen when the cat is without snacks! :)

Ang from OZ | 1690 comments Susan I have another saying for you "I can't have nice things because I have a cat" :) Friday tomorrow here for me!!! Yippeeeeee!

Edie | 29 comments Good one Ang. Here's my version: "All my favorite clothes are fur trimmed."

I love girl trips--just got back from a Nashville jaunt a few weeks ago--but happily (or sadly, depending on your point of view, I guess) our girl trips are planned. I love the planning almost as much as the trip. We girls have worked out this "fun-breakdown" of our best trips: 33% planning, 33% actual trip, 33% memories. I think all of us enjoy planning!

If any "long-lost girlfriends" showed up on my doorstep, I'd immediately break out a bottle of proseco and say, "Stay in the guest house a couple of days! Let's do some joy riding in the T-bird and then get on the internet and plan our trip." Sorry, not very spontaneous, I suppose. :)

Edie that sounds perfect to my not very impulsive ears. I can see us now going antiquing or even more favorite junking in those flea market shops.

Karen Laird (shadetreebookreviews) | 228 comments About three years ago Fred and I took a few days off and were exploring Amish country. As we headed back from Intercourse PA Fred set our GPS to no FWYs or HWYs. The 20 minute trip turned into a 2.5 hour odyssee as we wandered through the back lanes and the byways . It was wonderful and we saw true Amish country and not the tourist version. We even pulled over at a couple of roadside stands and explored and bought some stuff.
Maybe we need to follow the byways more often.

Now that sounds like my kind of trip Karen :)

I agree with April that the answer would depend on my situation in life. Right now, if they showed up on my doorstep, I've have to say "no" because work would get in the way! Then I would be sad because I could not go. Now if it was for a weekend, I would be more likely to drop everything and go.

There's nothing like taking off down a country road just to see where you end up. Even though it's hard to find time for extended trips, my husband and I enjoy taking daytrips to towns we've never been to, eating at a local hole-in-the-wall, and just enjoying being away from home.

Lisa Higgins | 101 comments What a great question, Deb! I just took a road trip with hubby -- we had to pick up my youngest from North Carolina where she was taking a music composition course at UNC, and hubby and I left a few days early to do some Civil-War-battlefield exploring in and around the Shenandoah Valley. Alas, it wasn't spontaneous, because in real life as you all know spontaneity is very difficult-- we all have so many obligations!

That's one of the reasons I love writing & reading fiction -- to imagine what it would be like to break out of our everyday lives and do something impulsive, irresponsible or, as those of you who've read my other books know, sometimes downright dangerous! Those shake-up-your-world moments can bring perspective, growth, wisdom . . . and positive change.

Isn't it great that, as readers, we can "do" those things from the safety of our armchair? Thus we live a thousand lifetimes.
