The Way of Kings [Apr 10, 2018]
@Siobhan....it somehow seemed ruder said that way π mostly I just couldn't believe NOBODY else commented on that development...I mean, COME ON! Of course, it was a re-read for everyone else, xept you, me and Anni, no?@Sedat...yaaaaass, your spoiler gives hope to all who love Dalinar, so ππ
Now that you say it, I can see how it would totally NOT make sense for Sanderson to absurdly kill his best char after all that mazing setup.
Of course, I will continue the series with Shivaan and Anni whenever they decide. I won't wuss out, I promise. I'm never prissy + the only series I just physically couldn't handle was *yerk* F&tF.
Here, i just wanted to crib for a while....see Sedat, when you cut your finger there is no fun in it, no? The only fun to be had when something icky happens is to be had in indulging yourself by howling very loudly and then eating some ice cream. So...similarly...i was jezzt yowling in outrage... mainly for *kicks*
But still...!%^*#! Sadeas!!!
Oh and @Lena...I think Virginie meant Sylphrena and not Shallan...bcuz Syl has a foggy memory...its all over the book and very prominently so...see, riddle solved πππ!!!
Btw Syl (view spoiler)
Also ELKOHAR Ch 69 (view spoiler)
@Zaara: No no, I meant Shallan. It'll become more apparent in the second book (since it's Shallan's flashbacks).
Virginie wrote: "@Zaara: No no, I meant Shallan. It'll become more apparent in the second book (since it's Shallan's flashbacks)."Ack didnt see this comment! Ok now I'm a bit confused ππ guess it'll sort itself out during Words of Radiance....
I'm done too and didn't expected the book to get any better, but the last quarter was amazing, I loved all the developments! (view spoiler)
I guess I forgot most of the things I wanted to say but before the app delete the whole comment again, I submit it now :)
@Anni...regarding point #8...π the flute scene!Yeah...also this is true. Dal has no ENDING SPOILER (view spoiler)
Also, nice try on getting em to moderate my Sadeas hate. Not working. You are right, of course. But the logic of it is not working. Like I was telling @Beste..I'm kinda blind when it comes to Dal.
I'll jezzt sit over here and love to hate Sadeas....
@Lenaaaa.....come over here and tell us what you think of Sadeas....or anything else Way of Kings...Oh and please.
I am sometimes rather too enthused when discussing books I love and keep forgetting ppl have other things to be getting on with. It is remiss of me, I admit. But I hope you will come here and talk us both...πseeing as you are online....Lenaaaaaa
Haha, I'm not trying to moderate the hate, I just appreciate Sandersons work because I think the scene was well done :) And what would we do without a son of unmarried parents to hate? πToo bad, Lena has no 's' in her name... πππ
Sadeas is an interesting character in that we see him from different perspectives. A ruthless cruel general, a loyal soldier, a possible enemy/traitor, an old friend, a man of honor. No reason he canβt be all of them, people are complicated.
Lena wrote: "Sadeas is an interesting character in that we see him from different perspectives. A ruthless cruel general, a loyal soldier, a possible enemy/traitor, an old friend, a man of honor. No reason he c..."Yeah, well said! :)
Lena wrote: "Please someone remind me who Jorg is?"My heart just broke into a million tiny pieces and...
Wait for it....
Wait...
#SHATTEREDONTHEPLAINS
Pfaugh...all these Sadeas moderates. All these mature sensible people. All this logic and reason....All this....
Hehehehehehehehe....
I remember once upon a time I was like this with Northway....hated the dude. @Dragonchild was trying to usher me towards some form of temperance but I could never understand that ridiculous Emily.
Well, Northway...uhmmmm....shall I say he improves upon acquaintance? I hope Sadeas never does. I enjoy hating him too much.
In case the Em/Nway reference is obscure:
Zaara wrote: "Where is Virginie today?"Really busy with work. I was running around everywhere today, so exhausting...
Zaara wrote: "Ack didnt see this comment! Ok now I'm a bit confused ππ guess it'll sort itself out during Words of Radiance.... "Sorry for the confusion... I wish I had the time to re-read WoK to try and find quotes about that. But then, I'd go all 'Osheimy' (ie obsessive and creepy) so maybe it's a good thing hahaha.
Now, you HAVE to read Words of Radiance to find out what on Earth I was blabbering about!
Anni wrote: "I'm done too and didn't expected the book to get any better, but the last quarter was amazing, I loved all the developments! "Yeah, Sanderson always finishes his book with a very intense sequence of events/reveals. The fans call it the "Sanderson avalanche" :p
Lena wrote: "Sadeas is an interesting character in that we see him from different perspectives. A ruthless cruel general, a loyal soldier, a possible enemy/traitor, an old friend, a man of honor. No reason he c..."Yup, agree with that. On a logical and intellectual level. But I can't help it... I just hate his guts.
For @Virginie....Oh we are both agreed with Lena. She's right, I give you that.
Sanderson himself meant to convey her interpretations.
But what is striking and telling in the moment is this (totally tangential and irrelevant thought) what is wrong with world??
That thousands (view spoiler)
Do you think Sanderson meant to additionally convey this as well?
Which reminds me....lady, Deadhouse Gates, Deadhouse Gates, DEADHOUSE GATES (and I'm soooooo not sorry for the shouting capitals)
Have you watched a documentary called 13th? It has some fallacies and deffo cut out all the pseudopolitical rattling in the name of commentary but...
I am not good at being serious. But I AM very good at the appearance of frivolity. Alors, I will now go to the Osheim thred and be frivolous.
But I hope you read this, Gin.
And...once more for luck...Deadhouse Gaaaaaaates....
@Zaara: I like to think he did mean to convey this. What you said made me think of a sentence from Red Rising #3 (non-spoilery!)"This war is for him, or men like him. The decent. It's for the quiet and gentle who know how the world should be, but can't shout louder than the bastards."
What is wrong with this world that (view spoiler)
Garh, I really have the get on the Malazan train one of these days...
Virginie wrote: "@Zaara: I like to think he did mean to convey this. What you said made me think of a sentence from Red Rising #3 (non-spoilery!)"This war is for him, or men like him. The decent. It's for the..."
I missed the chance. Iwill wait for Malazan BR's to finish then will ask from BR Invite if someone else wants to join me.
Get @Shivorn to the station too...It says which platform number on the ticket ;-)
EDIT in case this was obscure: Harry Potter riff

No worries we know its 9 3/4 :)))
:-) Beste Has this group ever done a Great Harry Potter re-read?? Which reminds me..where is that Martin Apergis and did he finish the series....
EDIT: @MURF we know you are still reading Murf and as you can see we are all sticking arnd to chat. Are you liking it? We hope so. :D did ANYone rate this less than five?
Lena wrote: "Page 902"Thank god! Thank god, SOMEONE else mentioned this event with rage. π you Lenaaaaaa
Still slowly reading this.Struggling to get into it.
I'm beginning to think Sanderson just isn't for me.
Sarah wrote: "Still slowly reading this.Struggling to get into it.

Believe me the next book flows.
I struggled greatly for the first book and kept pushing myself to read because this many people couldn't be wrong. And by the end of the book I said wow this book is amazing but I will admit I didn't see how this series was better than Mistborn.Now...
I'm reading Words of Radiance...
I see why people think that. And I also think the same. Stormlight Archive is the best thing I've read.
Please ppl don't DNF the book. (My problem was adapting to too many POVS at once) Once you get used to the way POV's think and behave you won't want to go to sleep or work.
Sarah wrote: "Still slowly reading this.Struggling to get into it.

And is the status unchamged a fortnight later??
Did @Lena at least finish?
Damn if I missed that. End of an era ππππ

I set it aside to read some other things the last couple weeks, but will be picking it back up.
Abhay wrote: "Is Sylphrena The Cutest / Most Adorable fantasy character ever or what???"Oh just you wait!
Sarah wrote: "Beste wrote: "I struggled greatly for the first book and kept pushing myself to read because this many people couldn't be wrong. And by the end of the book I said wow this book is amazing but I wil..."You won't regret. I promise:)
See like I promised. All 3 parts of Sebastian are here to cheer you on, @Sarah and @Lena..And there's me...
So you better keep on...
EDIT: The Samberson threads should all be made perpetuals...
Where is that @Murf?
Lena wrote: "Uh, less than 100 pages to go I believe..."You know @Lena I'm saving my Renarin theory spoiler speshul as a prize for when you finish...if that's any incentive.
Try to get there before my hair colour changes and I develop early onset senility...π you!
Page 970 - those last two chapters were the best in the whole book! I had no idea about Elokhar but Dalinarβs boot in the chest was the kick in the ass the entire story had coming. That and Shallan finally getting brave enough to share and find answers, oh yes, this is going somewhere!
I dunno how you remember the details of the book... you've been reading it for nearly 16 months...
