I think the size is part of what has deterred me from reading this sooner. Big books are fine, but harder to tackle when also reading one or more other books. *shrugs* Buddy reads help though :)

It's easier to taken them one part at a time instead of thinking of the book as a whole. Each book is 5 parts, so you can take mini breaks between parts to digest the information.
That's my dears :) I have scheduled myself plenty time to read it and I thought a buddy read would be good because if I flag you all can motivate me! :D

I used to never read more than one book at a time. That changed around the first time I read this, actually.
I gen insanely excited when I see the book getting smaller on the right and bigger on the left while I read. Which is one reason that I love reading huge books in physical form. I don't like doing them audio or kindle. If it's huge, I want either a paperback or hardback. Preferably a hardback.

I'm going to start a little late, I like to finish Dragonbone Chair first :) But I have the book and the audiobook, so I hope I won't fall behind horribly...

I just finished part 2, and I don’t know what it is (I can’t explain it) but I can’t stop reading the book whenever I can! Which is not going accordingly actualy, yesterday and today I couldn’t find time from work etc. I was thinking of finishing this book in 5 days max but I think its gonna take more (already 3 days)I want to talk about the part I’ve finished but on mobile now and its not easy using spoilers (and very risky), I will soon tho :)
Hope you all are enjoying / gonna enjoy like I do! I hope people can find time and start it already too :)

You know something when I first heard how big this book was I said to myself I would train myself by reading other fantasy books which I did and when I decided to read this I realised it wasn't as bad as I thought it was gonna be I was expecting excruciating details everywhere but what I got was a fascinating world with some next level ecosystem which I loved soooo dont be worried it isn't as daunting as you think long but not dauntingSomething tells me that did absolutely nothing

I've read quite a few Sanderson books now so I know he doesn't write stuff for the sake of it, or in excruciating detail like you say. It flows well. I can't wait to get further.

Stormlight vs storm-light: sounds like an edition editing issue... but I listen to audio where there would be no way to tell, anyway... (view spoiler)

My worries about Stormlight Archive stemmed from the only other 1k books I've ever read being Wheel of Time... and those books DO wax poetic about the winds traveling across the landscape for the entire first chapter :D

I would assume GoT suffers because some storylines are longer than others, and for example, Daenerys needs things to do until the end of the series approaches and she can come claim her kingdom...
Stormlight Archive seems to solve some of that by breaking the book into parts, and not having all the POVs in every part...
In this book, Kaladin's storyline spans much more time than the rest... as a result, according to Peter over on the blog, Dalinar's POV in chapter 12 overlaps with Kaladin's POV in chapter 40 (view spoiler)

Siobhan wrote: "Zaara, you want to start tonight? I am still in the middle of Temeraire but can try and read the first chapter tonight. :) "Sorry Siobhan just saw this and spent yest reading KoT and 2 chapters of Osheim. Sure, now that Sarah is here too I'll start the prologue and first chapter.
Apos for late reply...
Just got bk home = bk to work, stuff to do...fridge to stock...yada yada...
Don't worry... it'll settle down in a couple chapters... most of use were lost at first on our first read...
To be honest I think after reading the dragonbone chair which was close to 1000 I thought I was ready for this so Anni if your still listening if your able to read dragonbone chair then you should be able to read this. 😊😊😊

Man, I enjoyed WoT, but I'm not sure I don't think I will read them again. And knowing what I thought going through them, I'm not sure that I would do it again if I could go back.

It's definitely a series that benefited from me not knowing better... such a slog at times...

I'm at chapter 15, a little after part 1. And I'm so enjoying this. Kaladin is still my favorite, but all of them have been enjoyable so far.I just love Sanderson's imagination!
Each book gives the backstory of a different character... first 3 books are Kaladin/Shallan/Dalinar... probably a bit early to reveal 4th/5th or 6th-10th
Szeth and the court jester are the most interesting characters. Dammit tomorrow I’m picking the book up again and finishing... within three days. 😊
I'm at wow here! Not because some big event happened. (I'm reading toooooo slow to see any (besides the one in prologue)!) But I really wonder how these ppl will get together. Story is just very untidy to read slow I guess. I will try to focus more over the weekend.

Sanderson writes long chapters for each POV... so reading slow might mean you don't see certain POVs for days...

Shallan was my fave my first time reading... and regarding Kaladin: (view spoiler)
Sanderson teams up with 4-5 artists for each book, creating the drawings and maps included throughout the book... if you're listening on audio, you can find the art on his website:

Chipped away to page 835. Mostly it was Adolin and Dalinar, then it went back to Kaladin and, as always, there was only so much I could take.

You're so close to the end sequence, I think... around chapter 67-70
